id actually rly like to stream again since it was huge fun when i did it

once i get a new laptop id stream my own ladder games / cast others np. Idk about a set timetable im optimistic that u can just find ppl via the steam group.

Thats kinda the truth. Even back in retail ppl didn't rly care about their position in ladder and played it just to get decent evenly matched games.

Yeah, problem is people don't like to play "ladder" in custom games as Lugim said.

And could everyone check their results and pm Lulgrim if something is wrong with their results? Because there were a lot of issues (drops, player switches, etc).

I wouldn't necessarily call it a ladder right now, but as long as there are matches between players we can calculate mathematical skill ratings based on who wins whom. Best of whatever doesn't really matter.

Problem is that in elimination only a small # of players can accumulate enough matches to get a reliable rating (low RD). And even that takes a few cycles. But ratings were asked for and now we have some.

If players want to submit games in between tournaments to lower their RD, that's great, I can include the data. It would be a lot better. But the system has existed for a while now and though some people have indicated interest, there have been no submissions.

Maybe really go for a league like system with pairings according to a somewhat timetable-ish plan. Give those people a week or two to agree on a date and time to play. This could probabely increase overall community activity and communication between players on general.

Sounds good if you can just get it rolling. Anyone willing to write up the system? Make a committee and start typing...

I put a win % number in there, and there's now an option of having your nationality displayed by a flag (see Wurgl, Toilailee and Dark Riku match history pages for preview) -- let me know if you want yours shown/hidden there.

We may add a favorite/best hero thingy as well and recording extra data for each match would allow pulling stuff like worst opposing hero or best map later if we want (this got way out of hand when I talked about it with Eerie).

What does RD mean please?

Rating Deviation (singular), meaning the estimated accuracy of your skill rating. E.g. your rating 1453 RD 167 means your skill is probably 1286-1620 so the estimate is not very reliable yet.

I rethought the match history a little and made a new database with extra metadata. I have copied some MRT1 matches there, you can preview how it will be @ http://www.dawnofwar.info/index.php?page=ratings-2 (click the "list all matches" link at top right).

This new DB will allow printing new stats like favorite/best hero, best/worst map, etc. like we discussed above. And also global stats like most popular/effective hero, etc.

One thing I'm still a bit fifty-sixty about is... Should I make the rating changes after each individual game, after all? Basically the formula functions most accurately when you have 5-10 games per round of calculation - but it can be used on a match-by-match basis as well.

The appeal is mostly the more frequent updates, and I assume it would be more forgiving to the people repeatedly knocked out of tournaments by top players when everyone is still unrated (so you have a huge losing streak vs. 1500 rated players, only they were always Hammer, Wurgl, Riku etc.)

updating the ratings from match to match sounds pretty fair to me, it does some "damage control" when people lose to someone who should be way above their rating as you pointed out

also, this represents a ladder, where the updates would be from match to match aswell
