Well, the potential for it is there now.
Hope to get this included as a visual upgrade for the Techmarine's Bionics.
Iron Hands Skin Pack might be the next step; still got so much other stuff to do.

here is what i meant with the hood. although given the size that these guys are going to show up in game i'm not sure it matters.

also, is anyone interested in me finishing the griffon? the texture is just a mock up right now. need to get it in game and see how it is. i was thinking it would replace the manticore with something more appropriate.

I love me some heavy mortars, sadly I'm not quite sure it would have a place in ELITE from Cealtos PoV.
Unless ofcourse its really just ment as an alternative model for the Manticore-

Not gonna nitpick, but that "mortar" just looks like a tube, nothing like a real mortar, just take a look at some mortars from ww1 and you might notice that the actual launcher is not just a tube.

It would look so much better if you would change the look from your "tube" to a real mortar desgin. Here is hoping that you can achieve that. :D

Does this mean that the ability that will set the mortar to fire will shoot a barrage of heavy mortar shells instead of missiles? Meaning That the mortar firing works like in CoH2 that one cannot set the locations the shell hits.

Well, Griffon is a mortar on a Chimera, and Chimeras don't have any upgrade.

I can see how some IG players will like to purchase a Chimera in Tier 2 and have the option to change it in a assault/short-ranged but fast-firing piece of artillery losing the multilaser and ability to reinforce.

Still, i don't think it's really needed, but i do like to think at solutions.

Great Work, very nice model. Please contine your development :)
adds a Commissar Lord(or a Guardsman) onto the top hatch of the BTW model, that seems to be more perfect !

How are things coming along with the acolyte?

Got some free time coming up soon so will be able to get quite a bit done, you manage to get the rubrics and berserkers done?

Got some ideas for these new plague marines so could do with some advice/textures to make them a little more distinct.

How are things coming along with the acolyte?

Havent really found the time / energy to do a whole lot the last couple of days.
Think I worked a few too many hours on it at once and got a bit burned out. But there isnt a whole lot to do anymore I think.

I can send you ofcourse my unfinished files, if you want to.

Got some free time coming up soon so will be able to get quite a bit done, you manage to get the rubrics and berserkers done?

Know I promised to finish them like a week ago, or even two, somehow the Acolyte just ate up all my attention.

Got some ideas for these new plague marines so could do with some advice/textures to make them a little more distinct.

Sure.
___

David-CZ sent me a potential model and textures for a Plague Knife, if you want to take a look at that.

Yeah just take a break if you get a bit sick of it. I usually find myself getting new ideas after a week or so and coming back to things.

Yeah it looked pretty done so upload it and ill add a couple of final bits to it.

Aye David messaged me too, going to take a look at that knife when I get some time off in a few days.

Thinking of basing them off a legion destroyer squad, got some nice old heresy armor and alt plague marine heads to use plus a half-finished one I abandoned making. So will polish it up and then think about more worn out and nurgle-esque textures.

Sound decent?

:) I think the griffon is really needed because the mortar is a feature weapon of IG.
the mortar will let the battleground have the third dimension.

I've been fiddling a bit with the acolyte texture and made this https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6RDoPr2MDlSMDBVYU5iOEJ6MGM/edit.

There'd be more than just what I put there, obviously. The bracers need some attention for instance. But I wanted to put it here for you anyway, and again if I could ask someone to show me how it actually looks in game I'd be grateful.

Being unable to run Max sucks. It's like drawing blind and having someone else tell you what it is you're doing.

I know your pain, I spent such a long time just droping my files into the ELITE folder* and having to start the game everytime I wanted to check anything; before I figured out how to operate that 3D max thingy.

*better than nothing btw, just dumping them into the ELITE folder, unpackaged(converted, or anything; if thats an option for you ofcourse

@David - which texture files do your new acolyte ones replace?

Also the plague knife just turns the choppa black and textureless when I apply it to the model.

Any ideas why? Not much of an expert on this.

Thanks

I tested the Choppa with the Plague Knife textures and it worked for me, didnt test it in cimbination with a unit though.

But I experienced maybe something similar with your Acolyte model, no matter what I tried the book on his chest would allways be black, but only in the model viewer. In the actual game it worked out fine.

Might be the same case with the choppa.

Could be a lighting problem, not sure, you could try and switch the lighting/shader on the choppa from like "wargear" to "unit" and see if something happens.

__ __ _ _ __

That said, the Plague Choppa is going to need a few ajustments, I asume, David, you used the normal Choppa's textures as a template?
Your textures over all fit mut they are a bit stretched, tilted, but that should be fixable by squishing them around a bit.

Wierd stuff going on with the textures in DOW.

I actually rendered the template when my computer still worked, though the unwraping was done really terribly. Don't know what Relic was doing. I guess they just never bothered adjusting it since it never got in the game. Post a picture of it so we can see, please. I'll see what I can do about it.

Thanks again for looking into it for me, both of you.

Like I said, its really not the worst distortion, but the -uh- pores are not all that round anymore. ANd it be a shame if that ate up some of the details. But its propably something I could fix by playing around with the textures a bit, if you dont have the tools right now. Image

*sigh* I was afraid it might do this.

I'm also afraid that without a better unwrap the textures will just keep stretching. Once I have the means I'll fix it and the textures should then be much easier to make.

But if you want to try adjusting it now here's the link: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6RDoPr2MDlSU2xaM29hWFN0NDQ/edit

I also added CrazyBump to the archive which I really recommand. It's priceless when making different maps out of diffuse texture.

I also stumbled upon this when browsing today :)

It's the choppa model from here:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6RDoPr2MDlSYmxEQlFiRDd4aFE/edit

It doesn't matter which one you pick, they're both the same. But since you'd already be messing up with the wrapping, could I ask a favor of you and have you make the blade a bit narrower if that's the right word. Like this I suppose.

Thanks.

ok, i fixed the uvw map and slimmed the blade and it exports fine but the model editor is giving me issues with the texture and it's showing up black. i've never actually gotten this far so i'm at a bit of a loss. it is giving me this:

Code: Select all

23:08:41:822: [INFO] Loading texture: "art\race_ork\troops_wargear\weapons_melee\choppa_nob_rare\choppa_nob_dif."

on every texture. any idea what it means? i can fuck around with it a bit more and see if i can figure it out but i'm hopping to avoid spending a lot of time on something that's already been solved. textures look ok in max btw, unless they're not supposed to export with the file type in there.

Seems like Max can't find the textures assigned to the model.

When you open Material Editor there should be a Multi-material texture assigned to the model. In this case there should be only one material defined with name that goes something like 'relic.material_choppa_nob_rare' iirc. (The actual model will most likely have a similar name. Both the model and the texture will be renamed to '..._plague_knife' eventually but for testing purposes it should be left as it is.)

When you open the material there shoud be various slots editable. For each slot you'll have to set a file otherwise the export will fail. Now you have to assign files from '...\dawn of war ii - retribution\Elite_beta\Data\art\race_ork\troops_wargear\weapons_melee\choppa_nob_rare'. If the folder doesn't exist create one and place the texture files in it.

To slots that don't have an appropriate texture available you have to assign textures from 'dawn of war ii - retribution\Elite_beta\Data\art\defaults'. An example would be the gloss map that Relic put in but never actually used. It has to be assigned with some file so 'defaulttexture.dds' will do.

Once all that is done the export should go without any errors.

I hope this helps. Wouldn't want you to spend the weekend bothering with this.

nm, found the issue. i wasn't paying attention and didn't download the textures.

EDIT: if everyone is happy i'll go ahead and upload it with a render of the uvw unwrap. i was afraid i was going to fuck up the skin but it turned out ok; i think because nothing got added or deleted.
