Since the Vindicare Assassin is ready I quickly made his portrait ^^
Bumped it up a little as I usually do with most of the stuff I've draw so far Though only slightly X)
Used the DoW + the very few artwork/miniature as ref ^^

Today was quite nice, managed to pump out another portrait :3
Since the Inquisitorial Stormtroopers just needed a bit nudge (seriously... they looked butt ugly... T_T) aaaaaand its the first unit on the field + most common, I figured I'll do them before the Purifiers ^^

I changed their looks a bit (helmet-vise), they are the elite of the elite a better helmet is just needed for these guys ^^ I start to get a liking on this gritty-dark style

That stormtrooper reminds me of a Ranger off of Fallout: NV but made to fight in the 40k universe and so has become 1,000,000x more badass! Awesome.

I'm loving the vindicare a lot, and though I do like how the inquis storm trooper looks artistically, he does come off a bit less... warhammer-ish? It feels like a character out of Killzone (helghast), rather than out of the 40k universe.

He reminded me of that guy from Fallout: New Vegas

As long as it's suitably grimdark enough for 40k, who cares?

Sigh... I just hate how they look like originally... And sadly they dont have any kind of artwork that I could've used since most of them used no faceguard only a helm and perhaps a google, but most guardsman have similar look ^^;

I used the original miniatures as a base, you will find mostly these....

And the few art (official) that I found, but you can barely take out anything on those :/ Fanarts of the stormtroopers are non-existant and I dont wanted to make them look similar to Kasrkin ^^; (which are the closest)


Personally I think its way better idea then the original ^^;

Which reminds me more of a demolition man's outfit then a stormtrooper X)
The ideas I used as a base were Crysis, Starcraft 2's Spectre and some modern military stuff I tried to make it not too high-tech looking, since for whatever reason, the Imperium in the 40k century makes stuff similar like we do in 2k

See my problem ? Nearly only with helm but no faceguard or no helm at all... x)
I can make a solid work for a Grey Knight since there are a huge amount of artwork, official and other have been done ^^; Hence, I wasnt able to use a solid reference, like I usually work X)
Hell outside of the TT, there are NO similar looking Stormtrooper art oO Not like Kasrkins, who do have an iconic look x)

The original design sucks. It looks like a cartoon.

Wasnt there something about Inquisitorial Stormtroopers getting a model overhaul in the next update ( new head or something ) to make them stand out from the IG Stormtroopers more?

Not sure about that, I dont follow IG stuff X) So far as you could see, I dont make up new designs on my own I really love WH40k's art style and I follow it wherever possible
However, this wasnt the case with the Stormtroopers. ^^;
Kasrkin... now that would be a different story since they got a shitton of artwork xD

@Commissar Badass --- Actually... I dont know how to make a stormtrooper more WH40k-ish ^^; They are missing the iconic marks like the SM, Inquisitors, Adeprus Sororitas, GK, ect. has I was in a bit of a bind there how to solve it ^^;

Hey Kilgarn, with all your awesome work across the rosters in Elite mod, I thought it would be a nice update if you did a rework of the Flash gitz portrait, it could really use some work, I know it was nice of the other guy who made it and the Doom of Malan'tai to ditch in, but I just feel it could use some more detail, to better blend in with the other portraits on the Ork roster.

Would be awesome if you could do this.

Kasr's are still technically classified as stormtroopers. They're unique in that they come from Cadia and are disciplined differently, but from the department Munitorum, they'd still be classified as storms as they fulfill the same role just with more expertise (and respect for being both Cadian and an Elite at that)

Hmmmm thats funny, it said under the pic that its a stormtrooper Ah well Point is, they really have no fanart :/ Too bad, I think they are quite cool :3 Loved'em in the Gaunt's Ghosts series when they popped up ^^

Aye, true that... Hans and my art style differ a lot ^^; If more people request it or Lulgrim/Caeltos gives me a green light in this matter, I'll make a Flashgitz/Doom portrait, no problem =) Same issue with the Dark Reaper/Fire Dragon.

Yeah Kasrkin are Stormtroopers, or Grenadiers to be more precise.

The only difference beeing pretty much their way of deployment, as far as I know.

Stormtroopers get deployed as Special Foces, to operate behind enemy lines and sabotage stuff,

while Grenadiers get deployed as regular heavy Infantry.

But they are otherwhise prettymuch identical. ( Same armour, weapons and in case of the TT / RPG same rules and stats )

Kasrkin are just Cadian Grenadiers / Stormtroopers, named after one of Cadia's Fortresscities if I'm not mistaken.

Other Regiments have ofcourse their own ST/Grenadiers but under different name, logicly.

For Example:
These are Krieg Stormtroopers / Grenadiers.
Still waiting for the day, Kriegplayers are allowed to use their own, actual Stormtrooper / Kasrkin models. :l

kasrkin are, literally, city relatives. kasr is city in cadian and kin i presume to be the same as in English.

So only Purifiers actually remain for GK now, since the vehicles are more or less good as they are, they hold the games standard for vehicle/walker portraits.

I spoke with Lulgrim yesterday, and his well imagination for adding icons for certain abilities is reaching its limits, so I figured I'd pass the question to you, if you feel that you could help with new icons for abilities?

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the work on ability icons aren't going to be as difficult to task with compared to making larger portraits etc and all that jiffy.

True, making an icon would be "trivial" compared to a portrait due to its small size
