After playing a bit more, Fire Dragons are good at being fringe fighters - units that linger on the edge of an engagement and attack targets of opportunity, using their high AV DPS and high movespeed to get to and bring down the target in short order and then get away as quickly as they came in. While damaging, they are fragile and their range is short, limiting their strength in a straight fight. I would say that they're situational at worst, flexible but micro intensive at best.

they defensive and opportunistic. they can't kite anything that deals ranged damage because they're weak. they can't sustain a kite over time because they're only speed 5.5. kiting also means they're not dealing damage. they're easily forced off and bleed easily. what torpid is talking about is the same thing that melta stormies do except fire dragons don't have a melta bomb. it's also a very risky move.

They can't kite because they are faster than most units in the game? Whut?
And have their own FoF ~~

I suppose he might be referring to the fact that because their meltas are short range , it puts them in melee charge range. that would definitely making kiting kind of a chore

they can't sustain kiting because i posted that at 3 in the morning on 4 hours of sleep...
fixed.
they can kite in the short term but they have neither the range, nor the health, nor the base speed to keep it up without help. they're faster than most units but not enough to stay out of melee or get out of range before bleeding too much. this is also what makes them bad against ranged vehicles which kite them to death.

Let's not forget that any form of knockback or suppression on fire dragons provides an excellent opportunity to bleed your opponent of some power........................
Yeah they can chase stuff pretty well. So can warp spiders, so can WL with BL 100% FoTM.
Not sure why this is such a huge problem with fire dragons and not all the other units who can chase stuff down.
If you see fire dragons as part of an eldar army, keep in mind that you must be cautious with your vehicles, don't overextend them doing gen bashes or chasing squads, etc
