well yeah when you kill the an asm it is really good , but getting that model loss on that asm model can be argued as worth the price of the sword its self. After all its not essy to get model kills when your commander is slower than most.

It is more of a , hey cool i can punish him for idiotically jumping his asm into my heretic / pc plague sword death blob. the fact that you got the model losses on his asm is a cause fo celebration on its own. The fact that you get the zombies is just gravy but ultimately unless it was a really close fight like say you got his asm but he got your raptors to retreat , taking out the asm will generally cause the balance of a battle to shift great enough to cause the sm to back down.

i'd say that the zombies are generally more useful from the sword than from the global.

sword is really good for both of riku's reasons.
jumping an ASM model into the enemy's tacs and tying them up for a few seconds is really really useful.
getting an extra, unexpected doomblast in mirror matches can lead to heavy bleed, if not a wipe, on your opponents tics.

there was one team game vs GK where my ally popped plague of undeath just as my manticore strike hit a grey knight melee blob.

there were like 5 undead grey knights running about. it was hilarious
