But be careful that if the hp of your unit gp down to 1 and it is still taking damage after that, the game will likely consider it dead even though it still lives (for the animation cannot be stopped), thus to heal or repair it might not work.

Hello, sorry for necroing this, but I've got a few more questions.

Earlier in the thread, it has been mentioned that special attacks and sync kills can only be done by units who have dedicated melee weapons on them. In that case, do terminator power fists or ogyrn shotguns count?

Also, in this video, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9FHyrYwTto), at around 18:14, there is a fight between level 4 tactical space marines and tyranid warriors. In the middle of the fight, one of the tactical space marines (not the sergeant) seems to knockback one of the warriors. I can't see And They Shall Know No Fear on them. Does that mean tactical space marines can indeed have special attacks?

You can cleary see it was the sargent doing the special attack.

No, I can recognize when the sergeant makes this special attack with his sword. Shortly before that, further up, a tyranid warrior falls onto the ground while locked in close combat with one of the normal tactical space marines.

OK, I see it now. Thanks.

Could you answer my questions as to power fists and ogryns as well? Please?

There are Power Fist Sync Kills and Special Attack(he slams the ground) though it's rarely seen since people usually get Power Fist to counter Vehicles not Infantry.

Ogryns IIRC have no Sync Kills and cannot be Sync Killed and I've never seen them do any Specials

Edit: Forgot to mention Specials :p My bad

Great, thanks. How about special attacks?

Ogryns melee attacks have 1 special attack and no sync kills.

Terminator power fists have 1 special attack and 2 sync kills.

Also, according to codex, vehicles have 50 melee skill. Does that mean all eligible units can perform special attacks on vehicles?

I think it might be more for sync kills, I distinctly remember wraithlords kicking down dead dreadnoughts

It does happen, but weapons have a sync kill triggering chance every time they are used to kill an enemy. Depending on the weapon of course. It doesn't involve melee skill.

Yes. Most special attacks affect all enemy targets. They can't knock them back obviously. Now I'm just picturing something knocking over a baneblade

It would make sense to increase the melee skill of tanks/transports to 91 so that nothing procs specials on them. Wouldn't work for the walkers though as they'de get too many specials and heavy melee squads would be useless.

why so specific with 91? lol lvl 3 genestealer could still proc specials on 91 melee skill, or whatever squad under UYC xD

156 melee skill is the minimum number that guarantees no specials.. ever

156 then or w/e they did with the retreat in elite to stop specials procing on retreating units.

I pretty much agree with this unless somebody points out why vechicles need another layer of protection from melee, both when vechicle pulls back or otherwise.

Obviously, this shouldn't be applied to walkers.

While we are at it, what is the formula for special proc chance? In fact, do we have a place where one can look up such stuff?
