I changed the texture a bit to look more natural. There is still some weirdness going on there though. I don't know what it is, what causes it or even if it's just me, but when looking from afar the head seems to be clipping with black polygons. When zoomed in however, it looks just fine.

That's just the Guardsmen Sergeant though. I couldn't find the Catachan Sergeant textures and I'm not sure if the head model I found is the right one. Please let me know where to find it when you have the time, Sterling. Thanks.

PS: What's up with the file directories? Or is there a reason for the IG head to be in the race_marine folder?

Thanks for having a bash at it.

However even when zoomed in the textures are all messed up for me...

Image

The model Indrid was talking about is called merrick_common - its in the "heads" folder for IG - it's skin tone needs to be more tanned like the arms of the catachan models.

The one you are editing is a custom space marine head that I resized and used for the Catachan pack as a sgt for the regular guardsman - that's why it's kept under race_marine.

So seeing how you are still working on factions, and currently the IG models can I take it as a maybe for a bayonet addition? :?

Yes possibly, however refining and eliminating glitches from existing models takes precedence at the moment.

That's the glitch I was referring to myself. I don't think it has anything to do with the textures, rather the actual model. I'll take a look at it again and see if I can find what the deal is.

EDIT:
Well, as unexpected as it was, I found the solution. The textures apparently need to have size of power of 2. This one was 324x324, so I changed it to 256x256 and it works.

I also edited the model file. No change in game, just a bit less messy in the editor.

Regarding the other head, I can't find it.

rofl! i don't mean to be an ass but that's been true since graphics cards were created. they only work in powers of 2 because it's much, much faster that way due to computers using 2 digit bits. if 3 bit computers had become common it would have been powers of 3.

why the texture was that size in the first place i don't know, but it definitely should not have been.

Cheers David - the latest version works (and looks) much better now.

The merrick_common head is included in the original DoWII files so you'll need to extract it using copes tools - if you don't have them or are unsure then I guess I could just upload it here anyway so let me know.

Thanks

@Nuclear Arbitor:
I know they do. It's just I thought the texture simply wouldn't load or the nvidia plugin would show an error while saving. What it does instead is showing the textures in this strange way. And the plugin only checks if the size can be divaded by 4.

@Sterling:
Thanks, now I know where to look. At first I thought they were in the elite folder.

EDIT:
Catachan head fixed.

Is that Force Commander Hair-Gel that I spot as the Catachan Sarge?

If so, nice use of that hairstyle

(Old joke but: Hair-esy?)

Put together a pack for the much neglected Tyranids - it's a compilation of all Shuma's models so credit goes to him.

The "Hierodule" Carnifex head is by Imperator and needs a few tweaks so consider some of these a WIP

Looks awesome! By the way, can you make the Lictor Alpha into something more like the Death Leaper? There is no "lictor alpha" anywhere in the Tyranid codex or even in the lore. The Death Leaper, on the other hand, fits the concept of a super strain of Lictor and has a unique look.

Also, any chance you could put together a Broodlord? Now THAT is something a lot of people have wanted to see for a long time.

It looks quite nice, but what is up with the Gaunts? They look a little over the top.

Well, since when was everything in dow in the lore. Personally I don't see why a multi-galactic species cannot have more than two types of Lictor. The deathleaper is too specialised for dow, so they have some sub strain of Lictor for performing like that.

And please, find somewhere to put the Broodlord in, because I see no Broodlord in the roster.

Given the stuff that Shuma is currently working on you can expect to see the Gaunts getting even more over the top I'm afraid - I like them looking a bit more spiky and whatnot.

I am actually working on a Broodlord and have been for a while - progress has been slow and only want to show it when it's in a decent state. Here's hoping to 4th Commanders - although it'll have to put a good case forward to depose the mighty SMA...

I was wondering if their was a chance of their being a dlc for every founding space marine chapter and also a customisable pre heresy scheme.

Salamanders will be the next chapter to get the "DLC" treatment and then after that I'm not sure.

I'm a little bored of marines and Chaos given that they have a lot of new models now.

You can edit the pre-heresy scheme by opening defaultchaptercolours and then changing the colours and badge.

1. Open 'Dawn of War II Retribution > Elite > Data > config > defaultchaptercolors.lua' and find the Chapter you want to change (do a control + f for the title in game when choosing army scheme).
2. Change the 'badge1Tex' equal to the file name of the icon you want. For example, if you have a file called Blood_angels.png, set badge1Tex = "Blood_angels"

Indeed we have a lot of toys to play with thanks to you and the rest of the staff.
Now maybe it's time for Nids and Eldar to get some love. : )

Is there any chance of their being dlc's for the other SM founding chapters like Salamanders, Iron Hands and Raven Gaurd

i was also wondering if they could make the AI's in single player harder so that we can practice more tactics and stuff.

The next DLC will be the Salamanders. And the A.I. seems to have been improved and will be better in 2.3.1.

By the way, this isn't really the right thread to ask about game function ;)

Please give all the bolt pistol models golden bolt pistols, not those wimpy silvery ones that look like plastic.

I just randomly selected them for the screenshot. Army level dictates what kind you get.

The models look awesome so far.
