Yup, will work on the portraits, as soon as I'm done with the contest I'm trying to hand in stuff
(which ends in 25th of nov.) I haven't forgotten ^^

As for your question: I use a Wacom Pen and Touch medium size and a PS5 to do these nothing fancy ^^

I've picked a small part that was the most interesting in my opinion, at the end of the story. I mean... who the hell would not want a challenge to draw a divination in water a la eldar?

Those that dont know about it, there was a contest held on the WH40k - Eternal Crusade MMO's site.

The maple leaves are needlessly contrasting here, they are the first thing that attracts my eye but they shouldn't, they definitely bear no meaning here. I would say there are too many planets here (I also don't understand the point of the opposing brightly-coloured planets), they are not as crucial as these two factions that are about to converge in a bloody battle and it leads me to a conclusion that the factions' members are too faded. Well maybe only the space marine bit, the orks aren't that bad actually in terms of that, though it could use a bit of distortions. That is design-wise. Now the drawing itself. The arm could be prettier (fingers could be more straight, nails look unattractive, all in all looks like an arm of an old women and that is maybe because of these blackouts, looks kinda dirty), the colour gamma is a bit depressing but I can't imagine something else here, so I don't really know how to describe my feeling but I don't like it.

I didn't read the story. Maybe I am missing something because of that. The fact is that I open your drawings and I am usually impressed. Now I can't really say I feel that. I am not into art so I can't profesionally critisize, just tried to explain a bit.

Lovely drawing, and it reminds why I didn't draw my idea for the contest, cuz I'm just not good enough . I like the hand, very well drawn and I can see what codex images inspired you for the SM and Ork poses.

I do have one critique though the copy/past on the maple leaves is quite obvious and the perspective on it is wrong as well. Just an advice here : I guess you already submitted your work but if you didn't change the leaves. They really stand out in a bad way.

@ Sub Zero --- Hm, well the maple leaves do need a bit fix, bit I was a bit out of time and I thought it wont look that bad =) Actually I dont think that they catch the eye that much, I muted them quite a bit. Besides its a lake, and maple leaves are around lakes pretty much always xD + leaves
Erm, actually, the Arkhona system has 3x suns: a Yellow, a red and a blue sun. The smaller red/blue circle around the yellow one, as they were trapped in its gravity field when the solar system was born. Or something like that...
As for the other planets, I just wanted to show the first few planet (only 4) up to Arkhona, so it has a meaning. The whole scene is a divination inside a lake, so I had to bring some meaning to it, plus it was detailed quite nice in the story as she looks around in the solar system and finally on the planet

The only two faction that were in said divination was the Space Marines (and to some extent the IG) and the orks Sadly no Chaos or eldar warhost ^^;
Since its a bit hazy divination not a clear photo-like vision, I dont wanted to detail them too much, since that wasn't the point. Especially, since as the description goes, the shapes of the visions were formed from the dark shapes of the water, so I already made them too detailed ^^;

Well, the eye is in the beholder as they say ^^ I actually used a photo reference of a female hand to use it one-on-one to do this. Imperfections that makes a human more beautiful. But everybody has its own taste I think ^^
Mmmm blackouts... ? o_O But yea the nails could use a bit work, I agree. Thats the most I could do with this one. Since there is no moon on this planet, I needed to generate artificial light to make it not fall off the pic. Plus its a night scene, so it was even harder. The previous version looked like it belongs to an undead, since it was too blueish :'D

I wanted to create an ominous feeling with the drawing. So thats why I chose the colors I did. Maybe thats why you dont feel OK around it? I mostly used green, torquise, orange, blue, yellow and some red here and there =)

Ok, I'm not the best yet with colors tho ^^;
You should read the story tho =) Then a lot of things will gain a meaning ^^
And true, tastes differ =) I still appreciate that despite you are not an artist yourself, you still tried to explain what bothers you with the drawing ^^

And sitting on 2nd place is not that bad actually I still got my name out there :3
