That said in a 1v1 fight where both units are at level 1 and they get the same amount of specials IF the ASM jumped and knocked over all of the banshees they will win, if they didn't jump or missed the jump the shees will win, this is the basic of why you lure asm on shuris/rangers/ranged blobs and only then run your banshees in with the scream (so that the asm models take longer to 'choose' their target and start doing damage on the shees), the same works in T2 but with more abilities, where the asm will need to land both the jump and the strike in order to take down the shees.
I confirm it. And I tested that with my friends in retail and in elite (both aspects of banshees).
For me venerable dread is a really good unit. It is the right choice to fight assault terminators/chaos terminators with lightning claws/nobz/carnifexes/seer council. There are tons of way to tie up/force off AV-units. And venerable dread is very tough. 1750 hp at level 1.The techamarine can boost its survivability with the global repair. In late stages of the game it is really important to gain control over central victory point. And dropping a venerable dread allows to do it sucessfully most of the time.
I guess it could get a better inspiration though like the DAoT dreads.
If I am not mistaken it already provides better damage buff and other buffs -
wrong Checked that, does not provide extra buffs. I also would like to see this benefit

it would be incredibly awesome if the Vendread could get a twin autocannon ranged upgrade.

For 600/50/
300 Ven Dread is in a bad spot. Take a wild guess which part makes it not worth the cost.
You are forgoing your chance at Termies any time soon considering you are spending the req, red (almost) and half the power for them on something which probably has some pretty decent counters out already. If not hate to break it to you but tank counters are not hard to come by in T3
Bearing in mind most AV is either designed to counter tanks at long range or to deal high damage close up, the Ven Dread is sandwiched in the middle because long range anti tank stuff (lascannons, lances, beamies, etc..) by its nature also counter walkers - especially melee ones who obviously cannot pressure it. This is made worse for the Ven Dread because it cannot get a ranged weapon so absolutely needs support. That's understandable for a game of combined arms but it lacks a basic versatility. Close range anti-tank stuff is just great at chasing a melee walker which is gonna have to run away at some point.
Which leads us on to the charge. Too many people use it to attack when I find it's best actually as a survival mechanism since it breaks snares. Trouble is it isn't used like that, partly because to get anything out of it in the first place you often need that charge. Hence the vicious circle: use the charge, your expensive investment is very vulnerable, so save it for escape. Save it for escape, and you may never see combat in the first place, so use it to get into combat. x1000
Melee walkers in general fall off towards T3 except for a sorcerer's hugbot (warp) and melee fex which charges in and uses its nearly-superheavy-hp to tank while it tears shit up.
Ven Dread is pretty useless in current format.
And no I have no fucking clue how to fix it

Decrease ability energy cost?

There's no reason you have to get a ven dread when the foe has tonnes of av, just like you wouldn't get a bane wolf if you did a super massive t1.
The ven dread is niche but very strong when used in the correct scenario, I think it's fine tbh.

I agree that the vdread just isn't as exciting and/or sexy as it should be. If I really need dread support, I find staying in T2 and buying one the old fashioned way pays off in the long run. If I can keep it alive, my bleed goes way down since my opponent is usually focused on killing my dread rather than bleeding my tacs/scouts. This lets me cruise into T3 and make my leveled up dread even better with DAoT. On the flip side, a vdread comes later and costs more power if you factor in the T3 upgrade, drains your red, and there's no compelling reason for the TM himself to get to T3 as he has no T3 wargear.
Mostly, vdreads are great at making an entrance. They almost always cause a mass retreat when he hits the field because you can't prepare for a dreadnought to just suddenly appear in your back lines. I wish he could skyleap like the autarch so I could drop pod him again at reduced cost, but that would look kind of fucking ridiculous.

That being said, it's nice ability to have in your pocket, but... yeah, pretty niche, unfortunately.

Didnt the Blood Angels, with their last codex, get a Librarian Dreadnought that could take a psychic ability that allowed him to spawn energy wings and fly?
edit
Problem solved

Jump troop Dreadnought.

Haha, that's hilarious looking. I want to see him hovering over the TM's shoulder like a heavily armored fairy godmother.
But seriously, going back to the autarch-ish idea, maybe he could shut down for ~10 seconds and be teleported out, and re-dropped at full health for 75-100 red?
Too crazy?

We could give him a teleport beacon, so he can reinfoce allies

I've been looking at Dreadnought - Thule's skills, from the Chaos Rising Campaign, just for funsies and inspiration,
This would have a similar effect, but actually requires you to send the VenDread into combat.

I like your idea. It will allow to use his charge offensively rather than an escape-mechanism. And does the fist of the Emperor has cooldown? If it does not I feel that energy regen will improve his combat capabilities against nobz. Fully upgraded nobz still counter unsupported venerable dread.

You mean Powerfister?

Lulz! I can imagine the voice line with the purchase of the wargear: "It's Power Fisting time!"
