I know that Englishmen use "Maths" and Muricans use "Math".
I don't like using murican's spelling but in my language Mathematics is singular.

"Maths" seems so wrong.

"I would like 2 more kilos of Maths, please"
"Don't you have enough mathematics?"
"No, I only have one left at home"

How does it work?

By that logic, the field of physics should just be 'physic'. Sounds odd, doesn't it? I guess in the British Isles we work by the premise that if the whole word is in the plural - Mathematics - then the abbreviated form should be, too.

English be weird, yo.

For your argument it just so happens to be the case that it makes no sense because mathematics is not a plural of a noun, it's both the noun in singular and plural form. So you're making a category error. It's like saying we should call "happens" happen because it makes no sense to say you need 2 kilos of happens... Kind of, anyway:

Mathematics comes from the Greek Mathema which means "that which is learnt". Obviously more than one thing is learnt so when it was translated from language to language it acquired the apparent plural it now has. But in a modern context it isn't used a plural for whatever reason else we would say maths are fun, as opposed to maths is fun when maths=abbreviation of mathematics.

You are taking my comment far more serious than you should.
I guess my humour is strange for most people. :(

Btw, I know the video, i watch that channel too.
Awesome stuff, i love math... i mean maths... mathematics... MATHEMATICA.

Yes... Mathematica. I set for the latin.
Latin make everybody happy... except with "Astra Militarum". But close enough.

In the same position here. Why do I always have to fix everyone else's failures?

I have a friend at school who we tease because he makes memes all of the time. Unfortunately, it is true, he spends his whole time putting up awkward Facebook posts and bad memes. :/

Well if the knowyourmeme.com's explanation was insufficent then I really can't elaborate much more.

Basically the picture usually has a bad pun/limping joke (like the one Torpid made there) as a caption.

That's not really how it works at all. Happen isn't a noun it's a verb, so you comparing it to maths isn't accurate. One doesn't maths, however one does happen. Happens isn't really a word, it's just the third-person singular conjugation of to happen, which ends with an s like all regular English verbs, and even the majority of irregular ones. Nobody calls anything happens, because it's not a noun. I don't see how the two cases are analogous.
