Comedian John Oliver's been doing a show for HBO and I must say, it's probably one of the funnier things I've seen in a while.
Unfortunately, I only ever see the stuff he posts on YT, so I'm actually curious to see if anyone here's watched the full episodes on his HBO show?

So he seems to be like the American version of Russel Howard. I can understand it might be funny, but I am not American so I don't get it.

Been a fan of his for quite a while so its nice to see him get a break so to speak. Americans seem to rather like him too.
If you're a fan of this stuff check out the bugle - John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman's podcast, although it is on a bit of hiatus due to John Oliver being all famous at the minute.
My roommate pays for HBO (AKA Game of Thrones channel) and I've watched some of the shows. It's really good, I think, and with the Colbert Report going away, it's nice to have another news-y show besides the Daily Show that makes fun of stupid shit in politics, business and whatever else. Sucks that it's behind an HBO pay wall, but at least some of it is on Youtube.

I can't agree there. Pride is actually very important when it has a basis. It serves as a motivator and without it I think the most successful people simply wouldn't exist. that is to say you can't be successful without pride. The problem with patriotism is that it's baseless pride in something which you have no talent in. You're being born in Germany isn't any reason to feel proud about their victories in the world-cup anymore so than if England won the world cup, this is because pride is meant to spawn from personal achievement and in this case you've done jack-shit to help the German team win the world cup. If you were the manager of such a team however then that pride would be good because it would spur you on to greater feats and justifiably so! If you are happy and pride about doing nothing then all that will result is you doing absolutely nothing.
