I open the public games list, see a game with 3/4 players, but I don't join because I'm afraid that I'll mess up and people will yell at me. Please advise.

Join a 3v3 lobby named Noob or Beginner Only. Ask for observer if you want/can and see how they handle their engagements. If not, just ask ur team for advice. Hopefully, they'll help you.
And to me, 3v3's are a good way for you to mainly focus on the combat aspect of the game.
1v1's to me mainly puts your Map Control/Awareness and Multi-Tasking on the line along with how you handle an engagement.
2v2 to me is something that mixes 1v1 and 3v3
But to me, the easiest way to understand the basic concept of the game is if you have a friend you can 1v1 with who'll guide/teach you.

There will be always idiots yelling at you in pub games, even when it's themselves getting owned and not you, they will always find an excuse to blame someone else, so at this point you have 3 possibilities.
1)Play 1v1, in that case you won't have to deal with anyone
2)Play team games with randoms, and ignore the idiots that have to blame someone else.
3)Add people, in any game mode, when you find someone you like, add them to your friend list and ask them to play games together, also if you are a beginner join the beginner group and try to make friends there

hey man. welcome to the mod
add me to your friends list: I don't mind teaching your or helping you
steamcommunity.com/id/Batpimp/
first to arrange pick-up games that are usually casual in nature join the elite mod chat group
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/DoW2EliteModsecond look for Beginner rumble tournaments if you want to try 1v1 games with other beginners.
for example:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1099make sure you realize that many players have thousands of hours playing the game. Don't get too frustrated with losing. It happens.
1. *******PLEASE LET PEOPLE KNOW YOUR NEW******** if you join team games
2. Join the steam chat and advertise your "newbie" game
3. stick with one race and try to really understand it. I see people jumping races and it adds to your frustration and learning time.

Be nice to people and try to be respectful of what game they are trying to get (joining a "2v2 experienced players" game as a total newbie for example is not really excusable) other than that you shouldn't overthink it. You're playing for your enjoyment, not theirs. Their whining shouldn't matter. If they do whine point out to them that they should name their games more appropriately.
Either that or host games.

Whenever I host a game I simply name it game and all are welcome.
Echoing what everyone else said, it's alright if you're a beginner. It goes a long way if you tell your teammates that. Communicate, ask for help whenever you need it, ask for advice on what to get if you're not sure. Surrendering when your teammates want to is good etiquette.
That's the only advice I've got. Welcome to the mod! See you in game!

I think good players do have some responsibility in trying to be as respectful as possible. Come to think of it, I haven't been up to standard lately ^^.

Hi Ker'ple,
I can only emphasize what has been said before. Look for other players who are on your level or find players who are willing to team up with you from which you can learn. The best place imho though is the Steam group "
Elite Beginners" (Link:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/DoW2_Elite_Beginners), like Ace already suggested. Beginners games are hosted frequently in that group and take it from me, you will make progress there.
P.S: Also, add me. Always looking for new people. You'll find me in that group.
