the problem of ig, they has no assult/teleport unit:this mean platform/suprresion unit is hard counter to ig before chimera/manticore.
as u know, new unit available in here "artillary sppoter"
but... is it really counter to platform like to another race assult team? i dont think so.
1st, u build catachan and artillary sptter both u must be late tier 2 and this may be critical.
but more sad, they cannot counter perfectly setup team.
When u fight , u see setup team, u use mortar shell. this looks like good to but After mortar, they cannot swampping/retreat setup team. off setup, they re-setup their possion.
of course, smoke shell have. but if u r not newbie or less exp, u maybe move and ig still suffering suprresion.
they cost all mana but they cannot unarmed even one setup team. at least other setup team use less mana.
so I want to this buff:attacked artillary spotter mortar shell, attacked unit debuff slow or stun a few second.( 5-10s)
how do u think so?
(ah, because i'm korean not good to english. sorry and manage my bad grammer)

Spotter are really good at dealing with suppression teams especially since they don't have to commit themselves to do so.
Basically you need to make sure that you fire the artillery shell at the setup team :
1. while it's setup so it can't dodge
2. just behind the setup team to throw it into your army and allow for an easy tie up or just to bast it with all your fire power which will quickly force a retreat.
3. smoke shell is great if you have a lot of firepower as you can safely focus the setup team down or it allows for easy flanks.
if you execute perfectly you can almost negate two setup teams with one spotter squad.

They cannot alone counter 1 set-up perfectly, however it's much much harder to negate their countering of set-up teams than it is for example with a jump squad.
A jump squad you just positioning 2 set-up teams together, or a counter-initiate unit nearby. The jump squad can no longer perfectly counter suppression. With the exceptions of snipers there is very little that can be done to prevent the spotter team from "soft countering" (insofar as soft countering means they cannot fully counter something themselves) both of your set-up teams - smoke the one at the back, shell the one at the front.
Positioning of the mortar shell is absolutely vital. Indeed, they cannot force squads off alone, yet they with good use effectively force squads off alone - it only takes your sentinel(s) a few seconds to maul a squad that is blown out of cover and force it off and then be on its way around the rest of the map with its great speed and this can happen to none-set-up team units. Spotters provide anti-garrison in T2 with their incendiary shells and a temporary counter to turrets/ranged vehicles with their smoke shells. All the while they have low upkeep and barely bleed. They're a fantastic unit as it is and I really like their balance at the moment. Personally would not suggest any change to them.

ig do not need a t1 buff, they have possibly the best t1 in the game and suppression teams are easy to counter with ig,
catachans + sent stun + focus,
spotters smoke or spotters disruption mortar
lord commissar basilisk beacon global,
lord generals suppression immunity gear
inquisitor invisibility armor
so many easy options to deal with suppression

Colossal hyperbole there chipmunk. They're T1 is definitely not their best factor. Their T2 is. If suppression teams are useless vs IG are you suggesting melee squads/normal ranged squads/snipers/jump squads are better? Probably not, you probably just think that the IG t1 is OP... Which it isn't. It's nothing compared to the chaos/SM/eldar/nids...

I suppose , but just because their t2 is stronger doesn't mean their t1 isn't top tier among the races , they already have possibly the strongest no power opening line up possible with the 1 sent to guardsman set up.
And yes you can say those other races have *better t 1.5s* that is how they even the field , but it does come at a huge cost power wise, something an ig can largely side step .
being able to effectively get to t2 on low power investment is a potent t1 strategy. perhaps just as important as having good t 1.5 unit choices.
to clarify ig t1 yes it is definitely powerful for the power investment needed.
there may have been some hyperbole , but i am largely serious on my points.

This is literally why spotters were added to the game. They take a bit of getting used to (I'm assuming you're new to the mod, correct me if I'm wrong) but once used to them they are very handy.
Also catachans (esp with demo man) do work, use smoke a lot.

Doesn't the smoke also nerf your own ranged damage coming out of it?
Honestly all the smoke abilities confuse the heck out of me because they all do different things :/

Cata smoke doesn't havy any drawbacks whatsoever on your own stuff.

Cata smoke used to reduce incoming and outgoing damage, in Elite it only reduces incoming damage as well as negate suppression. You need to stand in the smoke before getting suppressed tho, as it doesn't remove suppression.

Nothing wrong with IG T1.
Typically you start out very strong due to sentinels, and then you lose steam heading into T2 as your opponent is able to field some counters.
If you are successful in gaining map control, it is very easy to stall an opponent while you work your way up in tech.
IG T2 is very strong and has the answers to anything that can be fielded.
It's just the nature of the race that they lose a lot of overall strength right at the T1.5 - pre T2 purchases point of the game.
