Organiser wanted for team based tournaments!

Who would have the patience, time and motivation to host team based tournaments?

Format ideas:
  • - A straight up 2v2 (or 3v3) version of the MRT.
  • - A team based tournament that plays out in one 3v3 to start out and then splits up in a 2v2 and 1v1.
Meaning 3 matches in total, so best out of 3 wins.
    - ...
Everyone should feel free to pitch in with format ideas or tournament specific rules.

What eventually will be chosen for the rule set will be left up to the volunteering TO (Tournament Organiser) and could be switched up as desired every iteration. I can pitch in pre-tournament and I think some of the other people that help with the MRT's will be able and willing to help here as well. Eerie could give advice on how to run everything. Don't worry if you're not exactly sure how to do everything. There is enough help and know-how around here. The most important thing is the motivation to make this an epic event!

The TO has a couple of responsibilities:
- Make a forum post with all the info needed.
- Make a rule set.
- Advertise (YT casters, streamers, forums, etc)
- Contact streamers for the event itself.
- Prize pool. (Everything that is linked to this, paypal, ...)
- The use of a Steam group. (Maybe use the MRT's one for this too so everything is easier for everyone? ^^)
- Brackets (put up X time before the event, update properly, update results the day itself).
- Smooth follow up the day itself. (Have some extra help in form of referees.)
- ...

These things shouldn't be done alone. Unless the TO really wants to ^^
Help is available. The end responsibility of getting everything done just lies with you.

Who will answer the call?!

Yep! That's what we need! If anybody feels up to the challenge, I'll help in any way I can, from the website stuff, to general advice. Also, I'd like to propose a league format, instead of a bracket tournament one! That way we could arrange the team matches every week (2 different teams would play every week). All the teams would play each other twice (first match and then a revenge match), so we'd have like an entire league seson split in 2 halves. In any case, I'll help in any help I can, whoever wishes to take it upon their armes, feel free to contact me and ask anything you want! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I'd actually be willing to help but honestly I feel like I'm way over my head here. I don't even have a paypal and I have maybe half the streamers on Steam? But I do have a skype and I'd be willing to help! Send me a pm here or on Steam and you can contact me at xlatlas on Skype as well! Not exactly a pro player but I'd be happy to help how I can.

One thing is clear. Eskpo has got into your head!

My preference would go out to a normal 2v2 tourney or the team based one that is split up into one 3v3, one 2v2 and one 1v1.
But as I said, it's up to the TO what he wants to do. If you are sure, go for it Swift. Just let us know.

Then let me get this straight, the first game is 3v3, then the team splits into 2v2 then finally 1v1. Does this work by having the player dropped for the 2v2 1v1 the other player dropped on the opposing team? Or is it chronological?

I.e.
  • Situation 1) Duck Riki, HoleyMallet and Toiletlee have played Jaffa, Crayman and Quiet Elmo, does this mean that Duck Riki and Quiet Elmo will now play each other whilst HoleyMallet and Toiletlee face Jaffa and Crayman in 2v2 and the results are added up after all modes have taken place?
  • Or
  • Situation 2) Games are played in order of mode, and the victors of the two games prior to the last win the match. DR, HM and Toilet win against Jaffa Cray and Quiet, then HM and Toilet win against Jaffa and Cray, meaning that the 1v1 does not have to be played as HM and co have already won two games?

That format is only a suggestion. It's up to the TO what happens in the end. I envisioned it as working like situation 1.

There would be no reason not to have the 2 later games played together ^^ Unless for streaming purposes?
Doing the 3v3 first and then the 2v2 and 1v1 at the same time will make the tourney progress quicker than usual (hopefully).

Swift is going to do it after the newcomer tourney I think. I organise enough 40K stuff irl.
Don't have the time or motivation to host something online as well. I can help out with some stuff though.

Oh yeah I have been to one of Riku's 40k tea parties (it was a slaaneshi one)... I can tell you it felt pretty authentic alright. It was ages ago and I still haven't recovered (nor has my anus). Sure glad I passed on the Khorne party *shudders*

Are you telling me that you attended the Nurgle party?
(i.e., 1 guy 1 cup/2 girls 1 cup)

It was kind of a water gun party but we had (non-lethal) bile spewers instead of water guns. I had to burn my clothes.

No wonder you attended the Slaaneshi party. You had no clothes left.

And don't worry Riku, I can now devote all of my attention to...

Indeed that is a concern, but we have to see the direction Relic and Sega go with this one. But I think even with battleservers this tournament will be functional, and hey, it is team game based, lose your army, and your ally covers for you :D

Late reply - I'm totally down for bigger tournaments, and I think a lot of people are too. Like I've said before, there's more potential for upsets and some pretty wack team combinations come out.

Not late at all, you're the first to feedback, it's really good to get this feedback so I know i am not barking up the wrong tree.

Oh don't worry the purists prefer 1v1, and I'm not gonna insult that because I'm kinda one of 'em.

I have a personal preference for 2v2 though, and larger gamemodes generally encourage more people to play. Skill still comes through of course, and it's not as easily avoided like by playing PC in 3v3 and attack-moving from cover to cover, suppression spamming, or whatever.

2v2's more balanced than 3v3 since the main weakness of races like SM and IG, maneuvrability, is somewhat compensated for but not to the degree it is in 3v3 where some maps make flanking effectively (a key part of the game) practically impossible and it just becomes a brawl - fun no doubt, but for a tournament? In 1v1 this weakness is too great for me, and I do have sympathy with some 1v1 SM complaints as a consequence.

Plus I wanna dethrone Riku and Noisy :)

Teamgames are excellent then! If Noisy and I team up you can dethrone us both at the same time! ;) Efficiency! :O

Spoiler: Swift seems to have taken interest in the "3v3 --> 2v2 - 1v1" format.

If snipers and set-up team spams weren't a thing in team games I would probably prefer them. 2v2s usually are decided right when the heroes are made clear because hero imbalances are really hard to deal with there. Certain combos just wreck other combos.

Just throwing out at idea: What if (one of) the tournaments was an all the same hero 3x3 tournament. It'd be kind of like Faction Wars but with Team Apothecary Vs Team Lictor and Team Sorcerer vs Team Farseer and so on and so forth?

I like that idea.

A bit boring though maybe? I can see the merit in that idea but it might lose its appeal if someone said "Hey you are up against team Lictor now." Well fuck.

Lictor isn't that amazing in 3v3 where he can't flank properly. Not to mention the massive advantage of nid speed is practically non-existent there. And then you have the new gaunt nerfs which make nids even worse in T1. the potential zoanthrope spam is scary though.

What Horma nerfs are you talking about? Melee synapse? Since Hormas themselves got only a major buff in the form of a price reduction.
