Hi,

(sorry if this is covered elsewhere but despite spending so much time on the net I lack the skills to have found it)

I've encountered people who've complained about this before but never understood what they meant until now - I have just installed Elite mod on a laptop, and now hitting the "'" (that's the apostrophe key) the debug (?) console drops down from the top. How do you stop that?

(This is wierd because I've been playing on my home PC for ages and that has never happened. So I don't know what's the difference between that and this).

By not pressing the key. Or by pressing it quickly again to hide the console. That's how I do it at least.

Anyone with a better solution? I like to write in proper sentences even in chat, so:

I'd like to be able to write like this

Id rather not write like this

There is no solution. (Unless you can rebind the key yourself?)

Write properly. Once you are done writing, and the console is still up, just hit the key again and press backspace.

Hrm. I'm already not the best player and am highly dependent on teammates carrying me, if intra-team communications are even slower for me it'll be another disaster for the Eldar, and they've had enough disasters since the Fall.

But the thing is, what makes me think there MUST be some kind of solution for this, is that this problem is absent in my home PC installation. I'd run into other people who've encountered it (teammates who start talking about the console dropping down midgame) and I had no idea (I only played DoW2R on that one home PC I have), until now.

So, home PC no console on hitting apostrophe, this laptop I travel with, apostrophe blocks half the screen.

If every DoW2R/Elite install had this problem then I can see it as "unfixable", but it has to be something tweakable otherwise why the difference in behaviour?

Key rebinding - do you mean editing Windows registry settings? Won't that affect everything outside the game as well?

It's on every installation of the Elite Mod. As Discreet tried to point out above it depends on your type of keyboard.
If you really need to communicate fast, why not use the Elite Mods TS server or any other voice communication of your liking? ^^

Yes, above the tab key on the left and shared with the "`" key.

Well, keyboard seems identical. US keyboard layout. Both machines Windows 7. So, curiouser and curiouser...

I dunno, using voice seems like "cheating" somehow.

Two solutions, one i do not think you will like (which I will give first)

1. Ask the whole of the community to forgive you for not using apostrophes

2. If I were you I'd use alternatives sentence contructs that don't require the use of them.

For example

If I am honest then I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. I do applaud the use of good english but the odd missing apostrophe is not going to hurt anyone. When I type in game chat I am lucky if I even manage to type actual words. Watch any casts by Crazyman and you will hear him make fun of what I type. Also note how this entire paragraph has not used the ' key at all. Well except for that last one.

something i have noticed is that, this does not happen in the retail version of the game. so it is clearly an issue with elite.

i remember in i think the first week of my playing elite, i accidentally hit the ' Key and the console stayed up for the rest of the match. i couldn't do anything. so to clarify, about half way though the game i accidentally got the console up, which stopped me from moving my units or doing anything really, having the AI taking over for me would of done better in that situation. it wasn't until when we were on about 6 VPs that i actually found the button to hide the console, but obviously by then it was too late.

in all honesty, it can be game breaking for people who don't know how they brought it up, i've seen it happen to other people aswell. its more of an annoyance for those that actually know how to hide it.

i would however still like to use proper punctuation in my sentences, but then the console pops up, very annoying.
would like to see this fixed if possible, but its not a pressing concern.

No i dont works, i tryed it yesterday. Removing -dev from the Shortcut prevents Elite from starting.
