Hello forumgoers,

I've installed the Elite mod today, played a few games, and after that my GPU spazzed out. Atleast my IT friend thinks my GPU is the issue. My screen often show small balck squares flickering around the screen. My friend advised me to deinstall the mod. I didn't find a deinstall mod function, so I've deinstalled DoW: Retribution and moved the map containing the elite mod to my desktop, renamed it and put .old behind it.

However I still see the black squares flickering across my screen. Does any of you have an idea on how to fix this and properly remove the mod? Is this a known issue or have you never seen this before with the mod?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You just have to delete the Elite folder in your Retribution directory. The installer just copies the folder and a few other files over, it's not "installed" like a program is with registry entries etc.

Your problem sounds like a typical artifacting (dying) video card, unrelated to the mod or any game, it may have just happened in the mod first. Time to contact the retailer or manufacturer about your warranty, or replace the card if you have none.

yea to me that sounds like your video card (GPU) is dying.

what is your GPU and how old is it?

agreed it's a hardware fault - it's been ages since "bad software" could damage hardware physically.

The mod itself doesn't do anything graphics-performance-wise that the base DoW2 game itself doesn't do, so whatever problem the mod could cause, the default game could cause too.

I'd put money down that it's just an unfortunate coincidence that your graphics card decided to choke at the same time you tried out Elite.

That is my GPU fried while playing elite.

Then again I have spent about 2000hours of DOW on elite. So statistically that was very likely to happen, especially considering when this problem occured for me DOW was basically all I played.

So yeah, it's a hardware problem not a software problem. Unfortunately that means removing the mod will do nothing to help your issue and you will likely have to send off your computer to get it fixed. Was it a laptop or a PC? If it was a laptop/notebook you are meant to use a cooling fan while playing any remotely modern video games on it; especially if doing so for long periods of time (i.e. more than 1 hour sittings).

After a talk with my IT savvy friend, and seeing your responses, it's probably the my video card dying. I will check my hardware this weekend to see if anything can be done about it. I don't think I have any warranty, my pc was build by a private constructor a few years ago (3-4). I will check the type and version and let you guys know.

It's a shame really, I've bought Retribution just so I could play the Elite mod online (luckily during the recent steam sale ). I've been introduced to it through Red Rupee and Indrid and it seemed like tons of fun!

And Atlas, I still have Retribution ofcourse. As soon as I will find a way to fix my GPU I'm gonna play online, be prepared for my noob as! Embarassing Chaos players since 2014!

you cant "fix" a dying GPU, you'll need to buy a new one. pretty sure thats why atlas mentioned black friday sales. ofcourse you'd have to be in america to even benefit from black friday. pretty sure black friday is only a thing in america.

yea haven't seen it any other year, i reallt hope its a one off thing. i've heard of people being killed on black fridays just because they got the last thing of a certain item. then again thats america.
