So what is everyone's thoughts on weekly exhibition matches?

fv100 wrote:The better solution IMO is to have someone run a stream on the weekend for intermediate exhibition matches - the idea being that having people watch you play on twitch makes the game more exciting. Players would rotate in and out after each match (maybe king of the hill style, with a max of 3 games in a row?).
...
A streamer hosts a lobby called "1v1 intermediate". Loser of each match swaps with the next observer in line, winner stays in for up to 3 or so games before giving up his slot.
If there's enough interest/streamers it might be possible to host multiple lobbies simultaneously.
from this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1370credit goes to vapor for thinking this up.
it's an awesome idea imo. basically at some point in the week, perhaps on the weekends. we do "exhibition" matches, to my understanding it would basically be a bit like an open-to-all tournament, the difference being no prizes other than a pat on the back (and perhaps no registration required?) these matches would purely be a show of skill and for fun. these games would be streamed, and it would also be really nice to help players improve, as they can watch over their own games and hear the streamer(s) criticism on their play, and thus improve.
what are peoples thoughts on this? perhaps if we do a trial of it at some point in January. and it's successful maybe we could make it an official event that goes on every week.
i for one would be willing to stream these (but im by no means the best player, so in nurlands words
Nurland wrote:Can also most likely hop in if somebody needs a co-swagster
im not sure who would organise it, i suppose if vapor isn't willing either me or swift could give it a shot.
i dont think it would strictly need to be 1v1s either. perhaps every so often there would be a 2v2 or a 3v3 version if it proves popular enough.

I think it's really awesome and I'm tempted to even say I would want to commentate on some of them *if you wouldn't mind* but then I also will probably regret saying that because really I'm rather shy (hate that word, but what I mean is I don't enjoy publically saying stupid things and streams give you less time than forums to consider your thoughts so they seem conducive to such) and would probably never come round to doing such without a good few hours of convincing.
It's a great idea though

would be interesting to see you commentating on this, especially with me. i would make a point and you would shoot it down instantly D:
also, would be hilarious to see noobcodex commentate on it aswell. like he did in the BT "Ven should get havocs" i facedesked so hard when he said that, BC eats havocs for breakfast.
anyway back on topic. i definitely think that something like this is what ELITE needs, just like what was discussed in the linked thread. right now we only have MRT and BT, but no inbetween. while these matches wouldn't be a tournament, i think it would encourage a lot more people to participate and help the ELITE community grow.

I'm cool with this idea but I'm mostly concerned on making sure that we have a stable crew that would be willing to do this and that word gets out and we have enough of a crowd (though having the former really helps with the latter).
Still, having a sort of Fight Club for Elite would be really cool.

This is crucial. The first port of call would be to drum up interest, get the word out and get things organised by possibly mid January.
If this is proven to be successful, a second trial run should be conducted in February, both to follow up on its success, to streamline and further improve the system and get a semblance of a stable crew going.
Should we wish to continue with this format, I suggest that Fight Clubs shouldn't run more than once a fortnight. Part of the reason why I suggested something like this in the first place is to get people confident enough to try their hand in the bigger leagues. We don't want to eclipse those events nor do we want to burn casters and players out. Get people's confidence and skill pumped a week or two before an MRT, then we might get more signups for the latter event.

A crucial consideration in my opinion. Properly executed, a beginner/intermediate player casting alongside an expert, with the former pointing things out and asking questions to the latter, which would be both a learning experience for the beginner/intermediate caster and the onlooking audience (hopefully).

The ruinous powers support this idea.
Its an excellent idea. Being streamed other day fighting Ven and Max Power was extremely exciting. I used to compete in the official Xbox 360 spacemarine tournaments, and the excitement reminded me of that; something ive not had in a long time. Not saying im aimimg to join the big wigs here anytime soon, but fighting similar level people sounds most enjoyable.

I'm up for organising, I'll have to improve by february if Iw ant to compete but I can always help running the show/getting it advertised.

why did it stop? lack of popularity? perhaps if we make this a thing we could bully indrid or something to promote it in video form. right now the MRT is promoted indirectly via casts and BT is self explanatory. faction wars is private. basically; i think that it might need more advertising than just on the forums.

Quite definitively no

Now to cling to and claim a fantastical one which no one but you shares, and hold it as the most important thing in your life... then maybe you're getting there.

You guys should go ahead with it if you want to shoot for the first half of January. I agree with whoever said the events should occur twice a month only. I can help organize these after I return in the middle of January.
AIso I am super down to co-stream (i.e. provide commentary on teamspeak/skype) in the interim, but I can't stream myself until I get back home, my laptop can't handle it

I actually participated in a small version of this, where it was a 1v1 lobby that just cycled players in and out. It was Torpid, Thunder and one other person I can't quite remember and we were just burning through games. It was a great time!
I had a really cool 1v1 with Cheah that I'm going to look at now for some mistakes. We didn't have a streamer, but I think this setup can work great! It only needs a small number of bros to work after all.

I'm in for playing in some of these

Not enough people play 1v1 regularly, I'm all for anything that increases it's popularity.

Well I'll play a bit but I can't garuntee intermediate play from me. I suppose I should actually play the game if I want to practise.

I'd be interested in playing. Would be interesting compared to my usual 3v3's. Someone recognised me as the 'sorcerer guy' the other day and man that felt good (irrespective of actual gameplaying ability haha)

I think many people are around actually, especially weekends. Many of the players in our private group plays 1v1, they don't just play them much atm. Most of the time, when we get a group together, we play 3v3. Trust me if u want to get quality games going, you should be able to. You need to seduce them to play 1v1 though.
We used to do King of the Hill 1v1. It was pretty fun.

Just wanna point out that Codex is quite well revered for his tactical analysis of the game by every decent player i have ever discussed the matter... So maybe taking heed of his advice would not be a bad thing instead of calling him a noob. Not saying that questioning advice etc is a bad thing. It is good to have your own thoughts and ideas.
BC can't do much to Havocs if you actually guard them with Tics in T1. And if he goes for tele build then you can use the Havocs very defensively covering your Tcsm etc. The thing is the Havoc seems one of the best ways to control and pressure the Rhino atm. So you can get one and try to protect it from the BC.

tics barely do anything to the BC. and with mantle of terra it shuts down doomblast.
for the most part codex's advice was good, but his recommendation of a setup team vs BC made me facepalm. i dont think hes very well versed with GK. he struggled to remember the name of mind blades.
but we're going off topic here.
i guess, if swift is willing to organise it we can do a trial of this in the coming weeks

Doomblast is useless against heroes like CL, BC and HT anyway. BC is pretty slow and will get screwed over by Tics esp since he cannot target them as he must harass the Havoc. BC is also slow as fuq so he has to generally make timely retreats if doesn't want to die.
Not saying Havocs are great in the MU but they most certainly can help you a lot in T1 especially if you are struggling to control the Rhino etc.
Codex is no GK expert but he is very competent with Chaos.
Anyway I am up for gaming or casting stuff.

No I think the Havoc was a good choice actually, as Nurland stated, since it does the highest damage and can lock down the Rhino quite effectively, since it does more damage the closer you get to it.
I suppose I'm the go to guy for organising things nowadays. I would prefer someone who suggested these exebition matches organise it since I would rather participate.

Sigh, I suppose I opened a Pandora's Box for myself, didn't I?
I've never really organised something like this before, though I would be happy to do so with assistance. I'm wondering whether Saturday 17th January would be too tight of a deadline, because if it is I'm afraid the next date I can do is Sunday 15th February.
I'm still mulling over the format, how to sign up, optimal timing for most people etc and will post as soon as I've got my thoughts together.

well its not like a tournament so if you organise it there is no reason to not participate.
im just not sure if im up to the snuff for organising it, i mean i could give it a shot. im not sure about anyone else though that might want to try and organise it.

well i would think that registration on the forums wouldn't be that good. some people dont want to make a forum account just for one weekend of games or something.
i was thinking along the lines of registering through a steam group or something. perhaps they could register for either just one weekend, the whole months worth of matches or even a few months. a little like a subscription to a gym or something?

as for optimal timing, i would think; on the weekend in the evening GMT. that way countries like ammerica are only half way though their day, so that the most people can participate.
now the format is what im not sure about.

This needs an own steam group. announcements via elite mod steam group and the own steam group + forums.
Not sure how to handle the registration.

Dat abbreviation.
looking good so far. i updated the ELITE steam group with a link to this new steam group in hopes of getting people interested in it. i'll also try my best to promote it on stream.
just one question; there is 3 slots for links to websites on the ELITE group. one is for the ELITE site, one is for the beginners group and the other is a L2P with codex.
if the L2P with codex is no longer active, can we replace the link with the new fight club group link?
