focus target?

so this idea came to my head while in the shower, where all great ideas come from.

i was thinking, would it be possible to add in a function for focusing a target?
what i mean is, right now we have units that you select and thats it. this proposed feature would allow you to have a small selection window showing the health/energy of a unit.

so if i wanted to focus target my commander, it'll be somewhere on the screen and i can see his health/energy at all times regardless as to if i have him selected or not. the same can also apply to your other, ally and enemy units (although im not sure if it would be easy to implement with enemy units as you'd need to grey it out or something if they're not in your LoS.

is something like that possible to implement?

thoughts on this idea?

Kinky.

Is it really that useful when your commander is just displayed at the top left anyway? All it would require to see his health and energy is click 1, then all of that information is available. I can see how it would be useful, of course, and in a way it might be since DoW II's commander system certainly takes some inspiration from mobas and hero focussed games, but I don't think that as long as your micro is decent, that it is an essential feature, just extra UI to add clutter. Plus it might be hard coded.

Though I'm probably the dissenting opinion and am about to be told it's such a great idea.

not just commanders though, but any and all units. so for example you're playing nids, so you focus target your warriors so its easier to see when to retreat them without having to pay much attention to them. perhaps map a hotkey that retreats the focused target?

also, while we're at it. would be nice to be able to see your points flash on the minimap or something if they're being decapped or something. just another idea that popped in to my head.

I'm serious though! It's piss-easy to micro in this game as it is. Why do we need even more help? Flashing mini-maps when you're losing a point? Really?

If people played SM properly i.e. learnt how to use the librarian, maybe they'de be able to micro too.

well even thought im UBER L33T and can get a 30-0 winning streak on my friend with only 10 hours playtime, i would still like to see them. they're really nice QoL changes imo.

I microed a librarian once. Used gate of infinity and then veil of time in succession on some devs. Wiped an enemy unit. I haven't played DoW since so as to not allow evidence against my belief that my micro is pr0 level.

I'm kind of on Torp's side here even thought I'm just a lowly scrublord now. I don't think we really need to make this game any simpler than it is right now.

Ok, if we're being pedantic it wouldn't make it simpler from any macro or knowledge perspective, but it would make it much easier from a micro one. Which has the same effect as making it simpler since simplifying it is bad because it makes it easier.

lmao @ Toil's post. Too true. Too true.
