The hive node has always pissed me off. I use it, so do a few people and we dont moan to much, but when it comes down to it the hive node is a bit mental. It has no built time and the ability seems to affect the hive node its self making it very hard to kill. I would like to see a built time like on a turret for the tech-marine and also allow small arms fire to do more damage as flamers ad anti buildings weaponry can be hard to get tier 1.
I've seen people (and myself) built these things on a vp and next to bunkers,relays and brood nests making them provide massive damage decreases for units already being reinforced and healed making me have to really built units to deal with these very strong fortifications.
I think the cost is fine just like to see a built time and maybe a change to duration of the ability Spore Cloud and stop it affecting the structure making it so dam hard to kill.

I would just make the node into a turret like structure that shoots spores at enemies. Imo~

Yeah i feel that could work would still have a use and would knock units of a cap:)
