I installed Elite before on another computer with no problem, but that one has since failed, andis unusable. I tried installing it twice on my older computer which runs Windows XP, if that's important. Don't ask the specs cause I don't have a clue.
I digress.
When I try to install it stops at the same point, an error screen comes up saying
"Error opening file for writing:
c:\documents and settings\user\my documents\my games\steam\SteamApps\common\dawn of war ii - retribution\Elite\.\Data\art\race_chaos\troops_wargear\woa_chaos_terminator_armour\woa_chaos_terminator_armour_common\woa_chaos_terminator_pauldrons_common_01_nurgle.model
Click Abort to stop the installation,
Retry to try again, or
Ignore to skip this file."
Clicking retry causes the error message to pop up again, ignoring makes the installation continue as normal, but Elite crashes on startup. I tried aborting and redownloading but it happens again.
Anyone had this or anything similar and know what caused it or how to fix it?
Installation problems
Re: Installation problems
it might be that it didn't download all the files propperly. that might be it. try downloading the 2.3.0 installer again and run it, if it succeeds then download and install the 2.3.1 H2 installer and run that.
you may need to reinstall the game entirely if that doesn't work. from the looks of the error message it should be fixed in one of those ways. it looks specific to the install itself rather than a problem with the computer etc

My Twitch where i occasionally stream myself pwning/getting pwned on elite mod, i seem to bounce between the two on a game to game basis. - http://www.Twitch.tv/Venkitsune

Redownloaded mod, reinstalled game and even Steam itself. Nothing. Thanks anyway mate.
Re: Installation problems
Have you started the original game before you installed the mod? It seems like elite mod installation will cause lots of trouble if you don'T start the original game at least once before you mod it.
I would just try it - it worked for me

It fails because this path exceeds the windows api limit which is something like 260 characters. We should perhaps cut down those unneccessarily longs names but the reason you run into this is your peculiar steam path that add to the length.
If you don't want to move your steam folder you can try the following:
Start/run "cmd" (Command prompt) and type
Code: Select all
subst s: "c:\documents and settings\user\my documents\my games\steam\SteamApps"(s: is now a temporary virtual drive pointing to your steam apps directory)
Close cmd and run the installer inserting the path
Code: Select all
s:\common\dawn of war ii - retribution\EliteThe s: drive is only a pointer and will be removed after a restart, hence make sure the Elite shortcut has target:
Code: Select all
"c:\documents and settings\user\my documents\my games\steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 56400 -nomovies -modname Elite -devRather messy but should work.

Re: Installation problems
I'm just trying to clarify something here.
If you Steam is on your C drive and you game is on your D drive, if you install Elite to D it doesn't seem to work. Does Elite and Steam need to be on the same drive to make it work without getting a "prepare to launch" and then nothing happens?
