Angry with 1v1.

Postby bibotot » Fri 15 May, 2015 10:53 pm

Seriously, I am playing IG, but I just can't win 1v1 games against people of my level who are playing Chaos. There is a guy I defeat in 3v3, but got stomped in 1v1. It's so annoying. Noise Marines, double Chaos Space Marines and the Plague Champion with Bile Spewer equal almost guaranteed win.

The main problem is that in 3v3, I have my entire army committed to a single lane. They work together. In 1v1, I have to spread them out, and you know that IG squads don't do much on their own.

Any advice on how to deal with this?

Not at IG player really but an amateur Chaos player in 1v1, though I can share soem tips:

1) Know when to divide and conquer: Don't always split your force unless oen unit is on capping duty or gen bashing, this means that whilst you lose some visiona cross the map you can actually fight in engagements. Divide to cap when you force him off and use this tiem to consolidate your forxce into a alrger one to ensure you win the rest of the engagements.

2) How you deal with each unit counts: It's really frustrating, but a lot of bad plays come down to position and what to focus. Shoot Heretics down early as they provide a crucial crutch to Chaos engagements and are really squishy, whereas with NM you want to control them; Sentinel stomp, Catachans, HWT all do this very well due to the short ranged nature of NM, so the trick is to keep them at range. The PC himself can be easily tied up by your hero whatever one you play, and if he chooses the Plague Sword to mitigate this effectiveness in melee he's basically throwing away thirty power to counter your melee hero. CSM are the last thing you want to focus sicne they can only provide raw single target damage and are thus less threatening.

3) Your play hinges on Sentinels: As a Chaos main Sentinels frustrate me no end. Sentinels are excellent at bleedign Heretics, have great disruption potential, don't bleed and are faster than anything the Chaos roster has, use them to bear the brunt of an assault and repair the damage with the guardsmen, whilst kiting Heretics into your HWT/main force/stomp. After an engagment get a cheeky decap on a far out point you can't fully cap.

I know a lot of this is mad eof assumptions, and it takes time to put into practise, but don't focus on winning, if you accomplish any of these things that's your victory, and soon you'll have them all working in harmony to win you the game completely.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

Try starting gm - gm- sent - hwt - spotters. Whatever wargear you need for the hero.

Him going for double csm allows you to get a fifth squad and upgrades without falling behind in tech. Your first power should go to your hwt as they won't have any counters ready (minus nades but I'll talk) that can deal with it. You can have one of your gm squads out capping since the PC wants to keep his tic around for their health regen worship which means they're not off capping.

The spotters are there in the case of either havocs or nm and GL tics. The applications are obvious really. Which leaves the only other option as raptors, of which you can just get stomp on your sent and some micro from there should get them off.

Early on in the game, there is a possibility that PC goes for fast spewer and nades. In that case, you need to focus him while he approaches your hwt to nade it and get as much damage in on him as possible. Have your hero tie him up if you can. Your HWT can focus him as for at least the 1st engagement you still might be seeing only 1 CSM and that's easy enough to deal with. 2 CSM is still manageable with a sent and gm as a stalling tactic while you get your other squads out to respond.

Basically, it's a very heavy build for CSM so take advantage of it by loading up in T1. Your T2 can make things a lot easier.

Huh strange. Usualy its the other way around due to the fact that sentinels dominate 1v1 as well as a chimera in t2. Use your sentinel its your key in t1. Cap with the hero, manage your sentinel closer to your capping gms and keep the pressure up on heretics. Make the chaos split up his plague and csm to regain map control. After you figure out the patterns of the MU its actually the other way around. IG is still probably one of the most strongest races in 1v1.
