Im quite new to this but I do draw stuff for quite some time so I guess I can make some texturing while Im getting used to T-FLEX and 3Dmax and trying to make santos tools work :P
And I suppose me being programmer-to-be could also come in handy

Welcome aboard littlevanguard o/

Feel free to ask around and learn from some of the masters around if you'd like :D They're all friendly people and are always looking for people to shove their work to.

I-I-I mean people to share their knowledge with!

Hey, everyone has to start somewhere :) When I started helping out, I didn't know anything about the game files' format or 2D texturing + making fx. It just takes some practice and the right programs.

If you're interested in coding, look up some tutorials and stuff. I'd imagine hakon would be the one to ask about that. He's the coding genie around here.

Cool. Maybe Sterling could help you get Santos' Tools working. I think recently he helped bountyhunter get his working. Any help would be great. Let me know if you need anything in particular.

I got teh old 3DSmax since i've seen somewhere on forums that santos tools dont work with newer versions. Yet I've never used 3Dmax b4 and obviously never installed any "addons" to it. I did managed to make it start but for some reason It only shows a few folders and crashes in attempt to open anything. Maybe i should unpack some stuff?

I will most probably be busy this month cuz exams and stuff so wouldnt be able to actively help but after that I'll continue my glorious ascention into the final form of 3d modelling god

I accidentially downloaded the 2015 version, and at least the imports are running. Don't know about the exports though. Make sure you put Santos scripts in the scripts folder of autodesk (watch out to put it correctly, one is named startup and that one should be included in the startup folder of autodesk that already exists).

Then open 3ds max, on the very right edge click on the hammer, click MAXScript and choose Santos Tools. Make sure settings are rooting to the correct directory such that you are able to choose the module to import from.

I'm assuming you already installed copes toolbox and exported all the sga files, that procedure is a bit more complicated iirc. :P

Hi! Dunno if I should start another discussion so I'll better ask here. I guess I need some advices from experienced modders, because most info I can find is outdated.

Script from Santos Tools that I've found throws errors even in 3DS Max 2009, though I've managed to import some models and then open them in 3DS Max 2015.
But still I have a problem: I've extracted all sga archives but some textures are missing. For example I just can't find anywhere textures for chaos lord.
As I understand, gloss textures are missing for every model, but what's with other textures? Are references to them in relic material generated by Santos' script and it is possible that textures are somewhere else? Or I just can't find them?

So I'll really appreciate if someone could help me.

Which .sga archives did you extract? It could be that you didn't extract all of them. Are you finding the file paths through the Model Editor?

I've extracted barely everything, but those textures seem to be missing. I've looked through every sga file and still can not find textures in Dawn of War 2\GameAssets\Data\art\race_chaos\troops\chaos_lord. So there are two options: I was not attentive enough or they are somewhere else.

Btw, tried to find them in Retribution, but failed too.

For most models textures are placed right where the model of unit or wargear is, but for Chaos Lord it's missing.

UPD: Lol, found it at last in GameArt_DELTA.sga. Sorry.

Anyway, I have lots of questions left. I guess I'll better start my own topic later.

All the model and texture files for each race are in the folder "troops_wargear" - the "troops" folder just contains the bones and animations.

Yeah, got it. Imported in Unity 3D, everything seems to work as expected so far. Time to get some animations.

Can you please explain how to make Santos' script work in 3DS Max 2015? And are there any clues how those shaders in DoW2 work? Standard shader is not exactly what is needed. And in sga archives there are only shader properties, not actual code.
