[2.2 beta] Portrait binds

These are doing my head in. Why is this implemented without the possibility to turn it off? My entire playstyle revolves around using those portraits on the right side, and now, when I want to use them I have to think for a few seconds before I can distinguish which squad is which (which usually ends up in squad wiped). It is unplayable. Please revert it or at least give an option to turn it off.

+1 to this.
If you can't do that, could we at the very least set 0 to be after 9 please. It's so weird for my capping scout or my dev to have the commander position.
Edited title for clarity.

What's your point Kvek?
Give WL binding 1, da binding 2 and shees binding 3 for normal layout? :p

you guys do know you can change the bind by simple pressing control and the number you want the unit to be on with the unit selected correct?

Not sure why people are having problems with this, there could be an option to turn it off I suppose.
0 should most definitely be after 9, though. It should follow the order on the keyboard.

Yes, let's just start re-assigning squad hotkeys mid-battle. Besides some people aren't as pr0/legitz as others and so they find themselves unable to tap a keyboard therefore leaving the job of squad selection to be done with a simple swift click along the unit tray at the right hand side. In such a case I can imagine it would be rather odd to find banshees are the top right and the warlock gradually sliding down the side of one's screen.

I suppose I could just change my keydefaults so control group tab is 9

must every response you make be a complete smart ass remark? seriously dude. it's fucking annoying. Never did i say mid battle you should change your hotkeys. You're completely twisting what i said.

I love the new auto-sort behaviour, but I guess playstyles with regards to squad selection varies quite alot.

I re-assign squad hotkeys mid battle a lot. This is one of the reasons this system fucks me up badly. I thought I will get used to it, but I can't. It's unplayable for me.

What purpose does re assigning during battle serve? Serious question, I'm actually curious.

Well atleast for me my Squad controll groups just have to change with the type and number of units I got on the field.
How horrible is it to get lets say a second Tac Squad on the field late(r) game and now having one squad on "3" and the other on "6" *shudder*
For example my first scout squad goes on "2" my second scouts go on "4" ( My Tacs are on 3 ) so I can micro them better individually, which is important early game where you have to go out and cap and split vs enemy melee units.
When my HB-Devastators come out I need my "4" key for them and all my scouts wander to controll group "2", since they are so vulnerable at that point, that I want to stay them together more.
Plasma Devs go on "5" unless I got a tank out. If my Scouts die my "2" slot gets filled with my dreadnought. etc etc
Basically, the more micro depending a unit is the higher I want it in the order.
I think controllgroup juggle is immensely important (IMHO) and I LOVE the new wandering unit portratis.

I don't work as "1 is Shootas, 3 is Sluggas, 4 is WB", but rather work in priorities. 1 is always the most important unit to micro easily, and that changes during battle. If I retreated a lot of stuff, the Weirdboy, who used to be number 4 but stayed on the field, is now 1 etc.

The new sorting is something I'm a really big fan of. I'm familiar with a number being at a certain portrait position with the appropriate number that way I don't have to click the portrait or waste time cycling through x amounts of squads until I get the one I want.
If a unit is on 3, it dies and I repurchase I want it to be back in that exact position which it now does, 3 isn't automatically after the 4th squad and I don't have to rehotkey. What's really fucking awesome is that I can reallocate in advance so I don't have to do it later on, the squad is in the exact position that I want and IMO is the best little tweak to the overall UI thus far.
The weirdest thing so far is when they enter a garrison, the portrait will actually go to the bottom of the list and when they exit it goes back to original position.
Maybe I'm a minority on this but whenever I play TM or whatever SM commander having stern guard move to the bottom of the list was really annoying, I always wanted the portrait to go back to where the original was to begin with and now I can!

Yep not been so lazy and edited my keydefaults appropriately. Would've thought an option would still have been nice if at all possible.

Please make the portrait switching an option.
Entering buildings or using transports is making me go coocoo.
Or make it so that it doesn't switch positions when using garrisons/transports
(Already being looked into if I'm not mistaking)
And make your hero fixed on position 1 regardless of group he gets placed in.

Super strange, I was playing Mekboy the other day, and I was entering garrisons and it didn't switch him around at all.

Might not be with commanders but I know it was the case with Dire Avengers and a few other units.
Could also be with repurchased units moving around the slots due to the way I'm hotkeying my armies but I'd have to see later on today.

It moves them around, but once you exit they should all re-sort based on the binds.

I played a total of 7-8 games of this beta because it is unplayable for me because of the portraits. Now a new patch comes out and the portraits remain the same, which means at least 2 more weeks of no-dow for me. There can surely be some hot-fix solution to this for us who dislike the new portrait mechanic? Please?

I'm not sure how they could give the option to turn it on and off, probably not a simple thing.

At the moment it has be on or off otherwise there is a sync error. I can fix the transport problem but the garrisons are a problem as it is not counted as player unit so I have to query the world. I am fairly sure I can come with with a fix correct the loading behaviours but I need a little time. I am sorry it taking awhile but please be patience, this is beta not a final release... If I can't fix it by the final release then it won't be in the release.

Lag is referring to the behaviour itself (when it's working as intended), not any bugs etc.

At the moment it is doubtful it can be switch on off manually, I will investigate when I have time, problem is how do I allow people to do that. I might be able to have a configure file which people can define the settings...
I understand that it massive problem at the moment if you are big on transport play but that should be fixed over the weekend.
I could always force the commander to be position one regardless of control group...

I'm big on changing hotkeys in the middle of the fight, and then reaching for the portraits, the only place where I know where my units are SURELY at all times, only to find a mess. I already have a mess on my hotkeys, why would I want one on the right as well?
What about altering just that piece of code and uploading that to overwrite the existing code? Could it create disputes between game versions?

I will have a look at it over the weekend. It is likely that it will cause a sync error but I will check.
