What happened to guardians' shields?

After a long time I decided to play Eldar and was very surprised by that. Whenever someone breathes on shields they are destroyed. That is the whole point of this thing. They are like turrets, you don't engage them directly or you do and take tremendous damage.

By breath I mean catachans' old reliable and heretics with grenade launchers. Catachans destroyed them in one volley. Heretics and a pair of CSM did that in 3-4 seconds. Do I miss something here? Because earlier when I used to play Eldar I very often fielded 3x guardians and populated the map with shields and they served me so well in open firefights. Now I am not so sure why I need spending energy on constructing those. Was something changed? I am aware that shields don't regenerate their health as fast as they used to. But I thought they still could withstand a lot of damage.

Or if you target directly shields and not the units behind them you destroy shields fast? Can anyone knowledgeable about that tell me?

#1 what is this guardian you speak of?

#2 Shields actually last too long imo, they stay up for ages and provide invulnerability, even to things like grenades and manticore strikes. i think you're just using them wrong or you're not paying attention to how long it takes to kill them, because it takes way more than a single catachan volley. they have 500 health so one catachan volley or GL tic volley wont even do a 100 or so to it.

Way to come off as a pedant ass Ven, good job.

As for the shields make sure you don't have a shuriken platform shooting through them (from a distance) because it almost instantly destroys them. Grenade launchers hit them pretty hard too, focused fire from unsuppressed infantry can make short work of them. That being said they definitely don't get destroyed by a tic barrage. In T1 one I advise using them on shurikens unless you face ASM which will crush them instantly (but you know that since you main SM :) ) If you rely on rangers (who does that these days) save your energy for nade combos.

Come T2 I advise spamming them everywhere as soon as you can if only to give you the time to hit the retreat before your squads get wiped :p (in 3v3 at least).

Also you can't setup shields in the middle of a firefight unless your guardians turn their back to the enemy.

Retribution 3.19.1 to Elite 2.3.0
Energy Shield health decreased from 1000 to 500
Energy Shield regeneration decreased from 5 to 2.5
Nothing else changed.

Keep in mind that shields can get instantly destroyed by being crushed. This includes models getting knocked back on the shields.
Shields are not like turrets and they definitely don't die when breathed on :) Nukes even have a hard time against them XD

#1 what is this guardian you speak of?

A guardian. Guardians. A guardian's *whatever word here*. Guardians' *whatever word here*. 's and s'. Not the same. Makes more sense now? Or what the heck was your actual problem?! Edit: Oh looks like someone really nitpicked there.... Now I see what the heck was your actual problem.

i think you're just using them wrong

And now it is just stupid to say.... How the heck do you use them wrong?! Even if I put guardians in front of a shield, what would qualify as a wrong usage, it would still not raise the question I had raised here.

Now to remarks that actually make sense.

As for the shields make sure you don't have a shuriken platform shooting through them (from a distance) because it almost instantly destroys them

I had a platform shooting from afar. But as I thought guardians couldn't construct shields when they see an enemy and fire or some other source of ranged fire comes from backlines. But in my case there was an already built shield that vaporized too fast (or it may seem to me that it did).

Shields are not like turrets and they definitely don't die when breathed on :) Nukes even have a hard time against them XD

This is also an impression of them I have always had in mind. But last time it really mindfucked me. Since then I haven't played Eldar anymore. I gotta do that again and find out whether I was high or not (obviously not, just kidding) last time and overall pay better attention.

So anyway if none of you reported any strange behavior of shields then I suppose that was something wrong in perception on my end. Or I was really happy to discover some strange behavior of shields because of very rare circumstances. Whatever, gotta play Eldar again to find out.
