Preamble:
We've gone a criminally long time without a beginner's level tournament and it's time to change that! I've seen a lot of new blood come in, and the ladder has really excited and energized a lot of bros! If we want to not play versus scrubs for the rest of our days, a beginner's tournament would be a great way of getting people into the game without getting crushed by Lictor Alpha every game.

As usual, the tournament organizers reserve the right to pull players out from the tournament at any stage they deem fit.

General Info:
The complete set of information including Brackets and Participants are listed in the Beginner Tournament 8 page.

Date:Beginner Tournament #8 will be held on Saturday, January 16th.
Time:Noon Eastern USA Time, 9:00 a.m. Pacific USA Time, 5:00 p.m. in Britain and 6:00 p.m. in Germany.

The tournament will be played in the 1v1 format with Victory Point Control rules.
The tournament will be welcome to Beginner (<500 hrs) Skill Levels.
The tournament will be played on the 2.4.2 patch.

Rules:
It's going to be a single elimination tournament and we'll play as many signups as possible.
Refer to the general rules thread for an overview.

Map Picks
Maps are always selected before hero picks.

The first match of a round will always be a fixed map as shown in the brackets. After this, the map pick will be the loser's choice. Only maps in the map pool may be played to be considered a valid tournament match.

No map can be played more than once within a round. Each player will have the option to veto a single map during a round, excluding the first match map. Maps that are variants of other maps, such as Pale Tooth Gorge and Green Tooth Gorge, will count as one map and can't be selected in the same round.

Hero Picks

The player on the top side of the bracket cell will lock in their hero first for the first match. Next game, the player on the bottom side of the bracket cell will lock in their opponent's hero first, and the order will alternate like this until the final game. In the final game of the round, the loser of the previous match will pick the map and then their hero first.

To check out who is on the top and bottom of your bracket cell, just look at the Brackets page. If your name is in the blue bar, you're the top of the bracket. If it's in the red bar, you're the bottom of the bracket.

Prizes:
Rather than picking from a selection of games from the vault, the Champion will instead pick 2 games from the entire vault and the same for the Runner Up afterwards. I'll get with them after the tournament and let them know what's available.

I really hope it does, it just seems to me like you haven't left it with enough time. 1 week for new players to sign up seems quite limited.

I didn't want to wait too long for another beginner tournament and I anticipate I'll be handling most of the details on this one. I was more confident in putting a lower amount of time because I can assure I'll be around to make sure things happen.

Super new here. I would like to sign up and fail at the tournament. I think I have about 10 hours under my belt

The only problem is I may have to work if someone is ill or something . But for now I am free!

I'd like to play in this tourney. I can stream while I play in it too.

This doesn't mean that you have to play all 3 of them. You can go the whole tournament with just 1 if you'd like.

Awesome, everyone who sent me their information has been added!

If you're looking for some practice before you start, check out the Beginner's Club!

Also, in case there is some confusion, you can register as either a regular or a reserve. The only difference between a regular and a reserve is when I seed you in the bracket. Reserves get seeded only after they show up on the day of the tournament. This is done in case a player isn't sure they can make it, so the regular players don't wait too long for an opponent.

My hours are higher but as I mentioned in previous beginners tournament posts I played most of those hours vs bots without reliable Internet and in the Last Stand. All army levels below 30 and only Chaos above 10. Hope that is still OK.
