Faction popularity.

Does anyone have the stats for how popular factions are? I go to games and what I find is that way too many people are playing Order factions and not enough are playing Disorder factions. Too many Space Marines and Guards. Not enough Orks and Tyranids. Chaos and Eldar are somewhere in the middle.

Can the updates somehow encourage people to play less of the over-presented races and more of the under-presented ones without breaking the balance?

Most of the time people just play the faction they like from the lore. It has always been that way and always will be.

Assuming they know the lore, that is :P.

Would some kind of poll for people to vote for the most popular faction be interesting? When was the last time such a thing was done anyway? I think it would be interesting to see (again).

Samples space is of course only 1v1 with players who want to be ranked, but it's a start.

Might be a little skewed in favor of orks due to my 450odd games with them. :D

@OP: I agree to a certain extent - there are a shitton of SM players. But, to be fair, every other game I play is against Eldar, or Chaos.

And, other than Cyris and Oddnerd (Odd, doesn't 1v1 as much, though) I haven't seen any stellar IGs. Hell, just last night I told an aspiring IG player that I felt bad for him... there is just such a lack of IG pros, that it becomes near impossible to truly learn their most optimized builds without spending hours in practice mode. :(

Fuck nids.

We actually have 2v2 and 3v3 data (and non-ranked 1v1 data) but I haven’t had the time to make UIs.

Cyris, are you able to do a dot plot of Faction win ratio vs popularity?

@Tranca, you should check out Adila when he plays IG or Tex or Noisy (Noisy does quite lulzy stuff in teams). Fr33man is also very competent with IG

Why would you need that?

To see if factions with a higher win ratio are winning because they are popular or because they are stronger.

Not that the stats would be reliable, just interesting. Also the relationship might be the other way round (popular because win more)

You could always divide the number of wins by the number of games played with that faction. That should give you a standardized value.

I feel you. But, what I mean is something crazy, like someone who's played 2k hours of nothing but IG.

Tex is 34-6 with Orks, Yaay is 23-2 with them. If anyone wanted to learn how to play orks, one could download replays from any of these 2 and learn ALOT just by watching them.

Eldar? The space elves have a large following and it is spear-headed by very good players one can learn alot from.

Same goes for Gom, or Noisy. You want to learn SM? Watch those 2.

Grey Knights? Crewfinity and Big Pigeon play different GK styles that both rape face.

Want to learn Chaos? The top 10 has 3 chaos mains, including you! :D

Fuck nids. But, watch Dark Riku.

IG, though? I haven't watched every single MRT, but I'd wager IG has not won or placed top 2 in many of them. Sad that one of the manliest races doesn't have as many representatives as the rest. T_T

I won my last tournament playing LG exclusively (it's been a while tho >:|) and Noisy has had a looot of success with inquisitor in MRTs.

Look for Noisy playing in the other mrts on the channel or Indrid/Rupee/Cretella/Bbos/[insert other channels I forgot]

Or if you go waaayyy back you can find retail games of Edtjuh, Holyhammer and yours truly, among others.

I don't mean to seem like a dick, but those videos are almost 2 years old...
If there has literally been no change in how a race is played in 2 years, then something is wrong.

Can I get you to put 50-60 IG games into the ladder? Not only will it help the stats, but it will teach many people that want to learn the race. Everything I'm saying is going based off the ladder. And, for the most part, that ladder doesn't have Tex/Riku/Gom level IG play, whereas it has a ton of high level play for most other races.

Noisy won a couple of MRTs a few months back when he played Inquisitor. Or is it a year back now? I haven't watched an MRT for a very long time.

Yes they are almost 2 years old and changes have happened but they're mostly minor tweaks and the race plays out largely the same way still, unlike the way it did in the way old retail times.

And no, I most likely will not be putting down 50-60 IG in the ladder, given that I play this game a couple of games every two weeks nowdays. And even if I played that much still it'd likely be spread over many races. And more importantly, for teaching purposes everything doesn't need to be up to date, if you want to watch me playing IG and learn from it you're better off watching older replays/casts when I was still sort of good at this game instead of up to date games of scrub play.

So... basically... my point of there not being as many high level IG games on the ladder as there are for most other races still stands.

When I started playing this I didn't have that luxury of a ladder newbies are starting to have now. It had maybe 1-2 pages, of which half the replays I couldn't watch. So, yeah, I had to go back 'years' to learn how to play. Bro, not even gonna lie - if anyone asked me right now whether they should watch 2 year old Tex vods, or download the current replays of some random ork with 2k hours who plays like 5 games a day on the ladder. I'd tell him to do the latter, no lie. Good thing Tex still plays.

The basics of gameplay and build orders still stand and older replays are still somewhat relevant.
