... fully upgraded Darkreapers (550/80) lose against Plaguemarines (450/40) in a straight shootout. (With Darkreapers Pinningfire activated.)
Sure Plaguemarines have "only" Infantry armor so they only take 1x damage instead of 1,25x damage, but on the other hand Plaguemarines only do Piercing damage which means 0,67x damage against the DRs Heavyarmor.

I guess it's because Plaguemarines have so much HP, and maybe Darkreapers lose more DPS because they have more models.
No balance judgemend (thus why in General Discussion), but I certainly was suprised :D

PM anti-infantry damage is a bit too good atm.

Still that sounds very surprising indeed.

PM hp regen allows them to tank a lot and be effective in sustained firefights whereas DR are supposed to pewpew from longer distances while being safe.

Was it even a close fight?

I don't think it's that surprising really. Dark Reapers only have 175 hp per model, where as Plague Marines have 750 (and extra hp regen I believe) so that alone would tip the balance pretty heavily in their favor. With such a low health pool, the Dark Reapers' heavy infantry armor doesn't have as much of an impact as it does on something like Tactical Marines/Wraithguard/etc. who are a lot more durable.

I've personally found that Reapers are great when nothing shoots back at them, but fall to most squads when locked in a one-on-one engagement.

Reapers are bad atm period. You only buy them when you're convinced the enemy will be too bothered by your other units to actually have a look at them.

I do tend to agree here. The only way for reapers to be any good atm is putting KS on them with WSE, guide or enhance. Other than that they are pretty shitty alone.

Well, they have a huge hp pool, 4.6 hp regen/sec per model, and also infantry armour (unlike other astartes models) which means that the dark reapers don't get their 1.25X damage bonus. Plus they have that DOT on their bolters which means they can deal damage while tanking it.

CPM have 750hp, regular PM ~667hp, but yeah PM have the superior hp pool

Do not underrestimate damage over time. And since Eldar infantry don't have high amounts of hp, it shows its effect in short term. I sometimes go for Plague Marines since it is very hard for Eldar to deal with.

EDIT : It is unnecesserily hard for a unit to handle Plague Marines alone from ranged. For Terminators even, if we ignore their fast regen; they will suffer a lot from Plague Marines bolters.

I rewatched the replay.

The DRs brought the PMs down to 1650/2000 health while they were capping a VP and didn't shoot back.
To be fair the Exarch was still in production and joined 10 seconds after the PMs started to shoot back.

I rewatched the replay, and for some reason the Exarch didn't even shoot. Weird.

Still, the lowest the PMs got was 1400.

So basically Darkreapers without Exarch but with the Aspect managed to take PMs to 1750/2000. :/
(Oh, and the DR got hit 3 times by the Rocketlauncher................. still)

Having only ever faced dark reapers and never used them, I feel like they are a low threat unit. In theory they should be top-notch, long-range, anti-HI sniper units (In keeping with their lore), but it seems like they just aren't very threatening even to the HI units which should be their natural prey.

The last time I played more than 3 eldar games a year was in 2009, so I hope I don't come across as Eldar-biased - I really do think they are under-performing.

This is going to sound a bit weird but id like to suggest something for Dark Reapers and let me know what you guys think.

I would like to see Dark Reapers do more damage the further the target is. But less as the target move in closer. The Distant damage does like 10% more damage (would have to put guide and KS on them and if enhance could increase weapon range by like 5 that would be awesome). Long is 5%, medium doesn't give a bonus, Short does 10% less damage.

Anyway what do you think? I honestly think getting these guys then would be amazing imo. I still do get them but only if i can buff them in some way (like with farseer).

Without any thought to the need or efficacy of that idea...

From a lore perspective...they are shooting fancy alien rockets, no? Rockets take time to get up to speed, which is why we use bullets and not rockets in our guns (no good when shoot someone in the chest 10 feet away and all they do is get a small bruise)
