Hello,

I'd like to ask the more experienced players for some advice.
I attached a replay of PC (me) vs. Warp Spider Exarch, which I lost (unsurprisingly, since Lichtbringer is the better player).
What could I have done better?
My own concusions:
1. Bad micro. Loosing a CSM squad this early is bad.
2. Getting a Dreadnought with a Shuriken Cannon AND Warp Spiders already on the field is a bad idea. Again: bad micro.
3. Going T3 instead of getting some units (e.g. Bloodletters) out.

Anything else I did miss?

Btw, I think thats the game with the Darkreapers losing badly against the PMs.

I am really dissapointed in myself that I couldn't give your more tipps, but I almost never play Chaos.
I will try now anyway:


For the Buildorder: I always struggle more against double Heretics, they give you more mappresence, and you can upgrade one of them a bit later to grenadelaunchers for the Shurikenteam. If you leave them melee, that still gives you the option to flank with them.
You definitly need something to deal with the Shurikenteam. Raptors are also an option.

Havocs against WSE is always risky, he can just teleport onto them. I have seen people make them work, but... I don't really know how

Oh, and get an Aspiringchampion for your Heretics, I hate that guy.

For the Plaguechampion I would suggest Bilespewer or the Plaguesword. With the Bilespewer (as we saw in the game on the desertmap) you can get sneaky genbashes off. The Plaguesword is amazing against banshees. Both of these wargears can allow you to make better use of the Havoc if you get one, because when the Banshees can't make it into melee while the Havoc is occupied you just have to wait untill your Heretics/CSM force of the WSE.

In T2, I think plaguemarines were a good choice, because normally I would go for a fast Falcon at that point.


But when you had no power up at 4:50 and the grenade wiped the CSM it was basically game over.



For play by play, after watching the replay again, I would say: when the WSE decaped your VP engage him with one of the squads, and maybe use the other to go for my VP. When you had my VP at neutral and my WSE showed up, you can take the green cover and force him away. When you see a Shurikenplatform overextending, melee it with your CSM.

The Plaguechampion has good stayingpower behind cover. If you get anything behind greencover and worship it, I basically can't hurt it with rangedfire. The Plaguechampion himself in greencover is actually quite good against a setupteam, because his shooting doesn't get affected negatively.

I know this probably doesn't help much. Sorry!
I also think a big part might just be the basics and experience. If you want we can do some 1v1 where I play Techmarine or something. Then you can get more experience in.

As we talked about Automatch is sadly not very populated and customgames are the go to most of the time.
But good on you for keeping playing and wanting to improve! I wish I could help you more, but I am sure the people who know Chaos here will chime in also.

- You had a very BAD starting capping. Never sit somewhere in a 1v1, always move. For PC; send starting tics to farest point you want, then send plague c. to a closer one. He is lack of speed so tics will always run faster than him. After that, your second squad ( no matter what it is ) can cap a much closer point to your base.

-Going for double CSM is never a wise thing for a 1v1, specially against Eldar.

-There is no point on trying to escape from Shrunken suppression by walking if you can't achive something worth it. You paid it with a model loss.

-Why you didn't build any kind of generators? My best advise here if, you captured a power point in the middle of the map like a one that enemy can take it away from you, node it after you took it. No need for building gens there since a full farm on your closest power point and that node should give you enough power income.

- Why send the heretics to the far point? If I send PC to the far point, tics will have kept up by the time the PC reaches his point. That way I have two units there and can handle enemy resistance better. If I send heretics there, they will be alone until PC arrives (which will be much later).

- Why is double CSM bad against Eldar? Maybe a silly question, but I don't know.

- As for gens: Very easy, I forgot about them

Lets make an example here ; imagine tics speed like 2x and plague champion like only a single x. Take victory point distance as 2x and a req point distance as an x. In my advice, send tics to 2x distance and pc to req point with x distance. They will reach the points nearly at same time and compile capping nearly at the same time. But with your gameplay, you will spend twice as much time since you cap them one by one

In a much easyer way to say, don't worry about enemy in the first minute while you send your units capping. ( Exept enemy is Warp Spider Exarch ) The enemy will be busy with his capping points meanwhile. It is very natural to loose points in a 1v1 like victory points or req points. You will decap enemys too. Just don't loose power points okay?

This is even T1 remember This is for 1v1 only. You might make it work with 2 CSM in a 3v3 to be honest.

2 CSM is viable in 1v1 but I do agree that it is generally not the greatest idea v Eldar.

2 CSM vs Eldar is bad for one single reason: map control. You can get away with 2 CSM on small maps because you can exert way more pressure on your enemy early on and Rangers have it tougher, but in most cases you want the 2nd Heretic squad to help you with map control and possibly setup teams. The best counter to the PC is (odd enough) a setup team, as is with all ranged heroes. If you had double CSM, you would have only your Heretic squad to counter it with either flanking maneuvers or with an upgrade to Grenade Launchers. If you do the latter you have no more melee deterrent against the Banshees/Hero.
