XCOM2 opinions
XCOM2 opinions
I know you're playing it, I seen it in my steam notifications. How is it?
I am desperate to get it but I have promised myself no more games as I have a steam library full of unfinished campaigns. However this one looks so good I may break my vow of fidelity.

Re: XCOM2 opinions
Game is subject to performance complaints / instability, but the advantage of them being widely-reported is that Firaxis will probably sort them out in short order (XCOM 2 being an important launch for them, ergo, pressure to fix it quick).
Other than that everyone seems to love the game. I don't have it yet, no money / need to get better at XCOM: EU / EW as apparently XCOM 2 ups the difficulty (and depth).

Re: XCOM2 opinions
Looks great but I'll probably wait for all the DLC to launch and grab some edition that includes it all.
Re: XCOM2 opinions
Prolly gonna stream and play it today for the first time, fingers crossed that it might be a worthy sequel.

I have only played a few hours of the game so far. The game looks great but I find that it is very forceful in some areas. You get dragged along and it is impossible to exit the game at certain points. This fact alone makes me resent it rather than love it. I love me freedom!
Otherwise the mechanics are similar/same as the first game, so if you loved that game, you will love this game!

Re: XCOM2 opinions
Really enjoying / enjoyed it.
Feels harder compared to the previous XCOM game, took some getting used to initially. AI seems better from previous game, likes to try and fuck you over when it gets a chance and some of the new enemies can be annoying to deal with at first.
Also timed missions make for a new challenge, some are silly hard though when you need to get across the map in 8 turns or something, but makes you have to consider a bit of a plan rather than guns blazing

Re: XCOM2 opinions
Played the shit out of the original Enemy Unknown and Terror from the Deep 20 years ago, and I did finish the new Enemy Unknown — although it seemed mostly just repetitive and dull with a joke for backstory & cutscenes, so maybe I’m not in the primary target demographic for XCOM 2. Still, I was intrigued by the guerrilla type setup and I did actually consider it… But after reading through a bunch of reviews it sounds like the same EU refined into a more annoying re-skin by time limits & dysfunctional RNG. Not to mention the unbelievable bug reports. Think I’ll spend my life on something more interesting, like scrolling 9gag.
Re: XCOM2 opinions
Interesting take. I played the original (God 1994 I think) but not the remake in between. The best thing about the game was it scared the hell out of me, you never knew where the aliens were hiding. This one looks better in most ways except I would prefer if characters just fired without the ponderous cut animation. I think this is going on my buy-as-soon-as-on-sale list.
Re: XCOM2 opinions
The remake doesn’t have the same creepy tension, it tried to be more Hollywood with the combat sequences (which get really tedious after a few hours and just result in desperate tapping of Esc in futile attempts to skip) and in any case after a while you’re doing the same mission on the same map while killing the same 3–4 aliens, mission after mission. The story elements are a placeholder. The ant farm HQ is cool at first, but of course you soon realise it’s a normal 2D grid and it becomes meh.
XCOM 1 was OK enough to finish (back when I had some free evenings, wouldn’t even consider it now) but it mostly left me a feeling of time that could have been spent better, so XCOM 2 would need to make some pretty big promises… Yet now it just promises more of the same plus rage and glitches.

Re: XCOM2 opinions
Maybe he was confused? It's an ability of the sectoids which lowers your aim? And remember it is a turn based game and what you see might not translate into what happens at the scene in real time (no sane person or alien) would stand around and do nothing, they would dodge for cover try to get out of line of fire.

Re: XCOM2 opinions
I am feeling a bit inspired. Do you think a dow2 mod could capture the tension of the original (1994)?
I was thinking of a survival mod. All ranged weapons +30% range to give the vulnerability to moving forward. heavy cover gives concealment to small models to add to the sneaky play.
Game long hard cap of 1 unit for most squads (2 for starter squads) to add to the tension.
The player would have to go forward to cap to get resources and power (and sight) but the incoming waves would keep driving him back.
