Unit upgrade timing - Is there are upgrades that are must get?

Hi everyone!

I am a new player to the game and Elite mod as well. I play a lot of CoH2 so I have some concepts about capping and microing. However, something quite different is the numerous upgrades that each unit has, especially T1 units.

Therefore, is there are specific timings where certain upgrades needs to be bought? (For example, I play Chaos - when should you upgrade your heretics and CSM before saving up to Tech up?)

Thanks all for the help :)

If your heretics are going into melee, Aspiring Champion is a must. If you're going to give them grenade launchers (a must vs sniper units and setup squads), then you don't need the AC, though I recommend getting an AC on at least 1 heretic squad either way for the detection if you know you'll be fighting infiltrated units like scouts.

As for Chaos Space Marines, I would recommend not buying Eternal War until after you've already begun to tech to Tier 2, and then upgrade them. The Champion upgrade is useful, though I would wait to upgrade that until after you've already made a few T2 units and made necessary upgrades to other units and have spare resources afterwards. However, the CSM Champions are not last-to-die like the Heretic AC is, so keep that in mind.

Autocannons for Havocs are almost always a must, unless you're expecting to fight a fair amount of vehicles, in which case get the lascannons. Blastmaster on Noise Marines is always a good choice.

The answer to this question would be way too long to write.

The timings depend on which build you are going for with your army and hero and there are many varying ways to do them.

I can only say that my builds are usually netween 60-160 power spent in T1 and I tend to get at least one T1,5 squad out before upgrading Heretics or CSM.

You need to try to see what your opponent is doing and then figure your answer to that. That is what determines really when you tech or when you spend more in your lower tier options.

If you have questions about timings regarding a specific build, I can try my best to help out with more detailed advice.

You will start to know when to buy each upgrade as long as you keep playing. Indrid casts are the best option to learn. For example;

- If your Heretics are going to melee a lot, go for the Champion on them.
- If you are against Imperial Guard however, Grenade Launchers are a better option. Yeees yes, Heretics will kill Guardsmen in melee but first; you have to get in there and IG can protect themself really good for that. So outshooting them with area damage weapons is a much safer option.

Another example

- If you are SM and you are against Eldar; you may want to get Shotguns for Scouts. Because of Banshees. But, if he goes for like 3 Dire Avengers and Shrunkens and stuff, Shotguns are a foolish choice. You should wait for ASM to arrive.

So, there isn't a clear build order. Everything depends on game itself. You may shape your self for your enemy to counter, or you can shape your enemy to counter. What did I said at second? Here is an example;

- If you are Plague Champion and vs SM; go Havocs ===> enemy will get ASM ===> Tear them apart with your Plague Sword and Heretics.

Thank you very much everyone! The tips you guys have provided are really helpful. Along with watching Indrid Casts, I definitely started to pick up some of the recommendation that were mention by your posts.

As many of you mentioned, I realized that there is not a specific timing that I need to follow. I will now try to play more and practice more to become more versatile.

One thing you can also do is watch streams. There are quite a few streamers that stream fairly regurarly.

Most of these streamers also take requests on what factions to play. These guys should be the ones that stream the most. If I forgot someone, forgive me, I am tired.

EW is useful if you want to plop down a full gen farm while still investing something extra into your t1 composition.

Oh so Corn is a streamer and yet I'm not. Just because I've been playing XCOM for ~a week, you abandoned me :x
Time to retire. Tourney's over folks. I'm not DoW player. Time to git gud in CoH2 :(

Anyway, on a more serious note to you Celec, Chaos upgrades are actually pretty straightforward for most units and so are the timings. With a faction built on specialist units you can pretty much plug a hole as it's needed with the appropriate unit.

The only real "timing" there is is the T2 purchase. As long as it doesn't happen too late you should be fine.

Hahaha. CoH2 is quite fun at the moment other than few balancing problems with some factions.

The only universal must-gets are the tier upgrades at your base. Don't be that guy who finds himself at 200 power in T1 when your enemies vehicles start showing up and you have no AV. Timing your T2 upgrade is a critical part of the game.
