TLS crashes in Retail version

I want to give the Necron Lord a play, but The Last Stand crashes in the retail version. It works fine when I play elite mod, but I cannot get any games because I suspect more people play TLS in retail.
I just re-installed the game and it still crashes. Any advice will help. Thanks

Anything in warnings.txt log file?

DOW2.exe caused a Privileged Instruction in module SHELL32.dll at 0023:756f6461.
Error occurred at 5/13/2014 13:22:06.
DOW2.exe, run by Bruno.
Microsoft Windows XP?.

Plenty of people play regular TLS. Have you tried verifying your game files?
I doubt something in ELITE is conflicting; the mod itself has been around for years.
