Chaos Terminator Reinforce Cost

I know this has been touched upon in a similar post where it just kinda trailed off and nothing all that important was really said but:

Why do Chaos Terminators cost so much to reinforce?


SM Termies: 150 req 25 pow

SM Assault Termies: 150 req 25 pow

Grey Knight Termies: 120 req 25 pow

Paladins: 108 req (weird number huh?) 25 pow

Chaos Termies: 100 req 50 pow


GK Termies and Paladins cost more in the first place, have build time and are a central part of GK so i kinda get it. But SM Termies and Assault Termies cost the same, drop in the same and cost half the power to reinforce while CT have less health, so are more likely to drop models (until you get the lightning claws to make it even, excluding Assault Termies). Why punish a squad for loosing models so hard when they are more likely to loose them?

Also 10 more melee skill on AT...? Is there something CSM Termies are doing that makes it more worth it...? The aura is cool but SM termies get one too. And the autocannon is so rape but you do have to pay for it. I mean an extra 25 power more than any other Terminator variant is a lot. GK Termies can retreat too, surely they should be punished harder for not retreating early enough when they are the only ones that can...?

I feel like I'm missing something here, enlighten me please? :)

Maybe because Chaos already has a good t2 + t3 roster and giving them terminators was just to give them even more choices and the fact that all Chaos heroes can field Assault Terminators too (a unit that previously was a FC exclusive unit).

Always remember that you should never compare units from different races in a vacuum. If you compare certain units of different factions you should also take the uniquness of each of them into account (i.e. economics, abilites, buffs, debuffs, army roster).

Btw. you did forget to mention that Chaos Terminators cost 100 req less compared to the loyalist counterparts and if you would reduce the reeinforcement costs for them would make them, I dare to say, too strong. Just because you would be able to field Chaos Terminators that are at least on par with the ones the SM could field and you would have to pay less overall.

One last thing, all the Chaos heroes have the tools to support their traitorous Terminators from the get go, like the vanilla worship abilities of the Chaos heretics or their wargear or their globals. As a SM player you would first need the librarian + his wargears to give the SM terminators the same support.

Ah i see, that all makes sense to me. Totally forgot about the req difference, I'm not much of a SM player. Soz! All Tics worship variations are sweet as with Termies. I personally use the Sorcerer and Autocannon Termies with Tzneecth worship is so good. Nurgle worship too to make em stick around for ages. Khorne worship and they are like an inescapable combine harvester you just can't run away from. Scary stuff.

So why the choice to make them cost more to reinforce rather than making them straight up cost the same and not be quite as good? Or being more expensive in the first place? Just as a way of allowing Chaos to get them out with less req while keeping balance? I guess that makes sense. Does making them 100 req cheaper just fit into Chaos' economy a bit better?

I'm not complaining at all, i was comparing them 1 v 1 and it just seemed odd to me that it would be the reinforce cost rather than any of the other ways.

Plus, power in T3 isn't anywhere near as important as in T1 and i generally do everything i can to not loose any Terminator models, there's more ways than ever in elite to deal with with them, it's so dangerous to have them get into the thick of it without the full 3. Better safe than sorry.

Also, this probably doesn't fit into the balance section now that i think of it... Apologies.

Also economically Chaos tends to float power late game. They tend to be a bit more req intensive than the other power armor factions. Hence lower req cost but higher power cost.

Chaos terminators also get +10 MS when they upgrade to the lightning claws.
