Can't join game with a mate

We both have the last version of Elite but we don't see the public games we create, and when we invite each other, it marks "unknown event."
Can't really nail it down without more info but, if you can't see each other's games, then that's usually a clear indication that you are in fact on different versions.
To make sure you both downloaded right, you both downloaded the 2.7.1 full installer right? This one I mean : https://www.dawnofwar.info/forum/viewto ... 728#p64669
Then after that obviously installed it, but I'm sure you know that part.
