Grey knights and sisters of battle (together)

Some cool sisters of battle models have popped up, and I'm sure that most of us are thinking about the potential for new units/races with all the hype threads popping up.

I stumbled across an old article from the beginning of this year which wrote about a sister of battle tabletop army that (legally) incorporated Grey Knight units into it.

I also got to thinking about the focus of grey knights (on tons of similar melee units with very few potential vehicles and a limited range) and I realized that since it is both reasonable in fluff (you know me) and in practice for Grey knights and Sisters of battle to be deployed together, (and since there is like a <10% chance of Sisters being an independent race in elite mod... ever) I think that Sisters of battle ranged squads and vehicles can be added to Grey Knights to augment their melee focus and currently limited T2 and T3.

Although I'm not gonna dive into unit theory crafting because I feel like I'll only end up limiting the discussion, I feel like this is something cool to consider and would offer a lot of possible potential.

Those Sister of Battle models are more then a year old, I believe they worked on by HorusHeretic, which no longer works on modding DoW2. He also built up the foundation of the Grey Knights.

So the likelyhood of implementing those, are pretty limited - if not non-existant.

Personally I think it would be a bad idea. Though you can have allies and whatnot in tabletop, generally speaking they are two completely separate militants - hereticus and malleus (SoB/GK respectively).

Arguably, it would also bring up an interesting question of the inquisitor being an IG commander if SoB were included - seeing as she's from the Ordo Hereticus herself.

I always thought the main problem with GK was their lack of units. Making GK into the entire Inquisition would definitely solve that problem but it might also bring tons of other problems regarding both balance and unit implenentation. Maybe one day, who knows.

I'm pretty sure the Sisters have actually nothing to do with the Ordo Hereticus / Witch Hunters.

They are the militant arm of the imperial church and they are their own thing, nothing to do with the Inquisition, they just got tossed together in their last TT Codex.

But yeah, if the Sororitas ever get into ELITE I rather see them as an IG-Inquisitor exclusive. Replacing the call-in Storm Troopers or something.

The imperial church and the inquisition of the ordo hereticus are heavily intertwined. The SOB currently do serve alongside the ordo hereticus to deal with heretical threats, although that certainly wasn't always the case.

I seem to recall reading a story where a group of Grey Knights killed a group of Sisters of Battles and painted their armor with the blood of the sisters as a way to resist demonic influences.

I can't imagine the sisters were very happy about that :|

I'de imagine the ordo hereticus will be engaging in discussions with said grey knights...

That was one stupid ass anecdote that one. Considering not a single grey knight has ever fallen to chaos. Pfft.

the uncorruptible grey knights require the blood and scalps of the sisters of battle, who have pentiant engines and repentia squads, to prevent said gray knights from being corrupted by a lot of something in the air around some demon lair.

40k lore is incredibly awful sometimes, and that's without trying to figure out the retcons.

I wouldnt believe a single word from that thing.

I somehow doubt that the sisters of battle hate the glorious Emperor...

Sounds to me like the grey knights were just really sexually frustrated and looking for someone to take it out on.

Daemonettes could serve such a purpose. I heard the story before and it sounds more like another of the crazy fanatical behavour that isn't really anything unusuall in the Imperium. No offence to the Imperium fans, but that's how it is.

They are a militant arm of the church, but they also act on behalf of the Ordo Hereticus when called upon - I'm not sure when they were included in their Codex but it remains a fact that they do act as a part of Hereticus. It's the same idea with Deathwatch, where you have Space Marines that are called onto service to service under Ordo Xenos for x amount of time.

That being said, I also love the idea of an Inquisitor being able to call in Sisters of Battle - it would be interesting to see a HI unit for IG. But I'm not sure how fitting it would be to see 'em working with IG, considering their "puritanical" nature.

Actually, considering how well the current Grey Knights work out(and I like how they are basically implemented as a subfaction of marines through their commander, which fits with their closeness to marines at the end of the day), my personal thoughts was that the Battle Sisters would be very well able to work as a similar sub-faction of their own.

Perhaps as a subset of the Imperial guard via an unique commander of their own, which would again fit considering how often I've heard Inquisition forces could "request" the service of guard regiments and so on(which's basically the current Inquisitor commander's schtick).

The fact that Grey knights an Battle sisters can fight alongside each others as allied forces would be better represented by two player playing together with one playing the Knights and another the Sisters as a team. Since at the end of the day both are quite different beasts nonetheless.

In any ways, this team's implementation of the Grey Knight and how complete and polished it felt to an outsider like me(especially when compared to so many other DoW2 mods) make me only dream what -else- this modding team could achieve if they decided to attempt more specializes subfactions again(and it's not like the Warhammer 40k universe had a lack of that, in any ways, with the plethora of Chaos Marines band, Space Marines chapters or Imperial Guard regiments that all have access to their own unique fluffs and mechanics).
