Looking forward to seeing the Ironclad Dreadnought, Attack Bikes and the Dark Talons if we go by the logic that new units should be added to elite.

This is probably better as a random shit thread.

Uh, how ugly these creatures are... Especially with the guns. Tyranids still remain as the worst race for me.

Kvek, please don't quote huge blocks of images. Especially when your post is directly after it (what else would you be referring to?). Makes the boards a chore to browse.

I mentioned this in the centurion thread but id love to see Hive Guard replace the Venom Warrior Brood. Move the ranged synapses to Zoans, or maybe make it an option for T1 warrior broods. The Hive Guard meanwhile can be an indirect fire, medium range attacker. Not needing line of sight and ignoring terrain between itself and the target (Since, at least in the current/old book, they dont need line of sight to shoot at an enemy.)

Please, enlighten me a bit about tyranids. Do I understand correctly that they create new units on basis of units of other races?

Tyranids created spore mines from orks. That is the only known for me example.

That beast on the picture above clearly has something from chaos, for only blind won't see the symbol of chaos on his back.

Oh no, that thing IS something chaos, just thought that the new Tyranid creature ( that one that gullets its own insides ) looks a bit too much like that Chaos Spawn thing.

That is something from Warhammer fantasy then? Since 40K doesn't use square bases.
How are spore mines from Orks? Is it their way to mimic bomb Squigs or something?
I've never heard of that before... Do you have any source for that? ^^

Well Orks are fungi after all and they release certain spores upon death so I guess they're just adapted from them?

They don't really mimic things, they just take the DNA of a race and use it as they can, like warriors are said to come from space marines and zoans from eldar psykers, I guess they used the ork's way of repruoducing as a way to mass spawn suicide bombs.

I dont know, usually all daemon related stuff exists in both 40k and FB, the models come with both bases.

And dont forget Genestealers, they have their name for a reason :P
but it works a bit different for them I guess.
They actually share similarities with the race that spawned them. Thats why the most common Genestealers have toes instead of hooves, and a pair of hands with five fingers.

Warriors are core tyranid creatures in theory, As far as i know what the units that come from abosrbing other races are zoanthropes and tyrant guards

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a 'core tyranid' just like there is no such thing as a core 'animal' in real life. Tyranids are constantly adapting to their environment so something as basic as a warrior cannot possibly be fundamental to the tyranids, I mean look at how some warriors use their talons for combat and some use venom cannons - they are constantly evolving, they need not have always existed in the tyranid ranks.

The only tyranid creatures which are likely to have always existed are the Norn-Queens and the Dominatrices, but even then they have probably had subtle changes in anatomy too over time to make them more efficient.

as core i meant units from before they came into the milky way and encountered the rest of the WH40k races. Realistically speaking, units that were from early books about tyranids...

Thingies like the hive mind, Hive Tyrant, Carnifexes, gaunts and warriors are the "core" of the lore for tyranids

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Tyranid_Warrior

Mmmmm, according to this genestealers also come from humans. Weird lire loophole tho, since genestealers seem to be key for the tyranid lore

Ah I get what you mean now. That certainly does cause a bit of confusion...

I guess humans exist outside of the Imperium then and the tyranids have met them before, to say that space marines also do however, well that's fucking over statistics lol.

Or maybe it's just that the current warrior broods are different from the 'core' warrior brood and that's a result of SM genes being implemented.

Genestealers infect other Races, create hybrids ( genestealer cults ) who then give birth to new genestealers. Those Genestealers inherit characteristics from the race that spawned them.

The models in the game / TT were descend from humans;

but Genestealers with other origin ( tau ) might look like this

Image

Edith: I guess this is how the very first Genestealers might have looked like? Before they mixed with humans / other races from our milkyway?

That thing is a nice conversion and retake of Genestealers. I wonder, how would it walk? Kinda scuttling like

I thought it wasn't the spore mines that used ork DNA, but rather, it was the beast that shot the spore mines out like artillery. I think they were called biovores. But given that spore mines are grown from inside biovores, perhaps ork DNA was incorporated into the growing mechanism.

Yeah biovores have ork DNA material, they are pretty much an artillery piece, with spore mines as ammo

From what i understand about the genestealer cult. The hybrids are fully human or whatever race they are, but they have different internal stuff that makes them obey the genestealers. That's the only way this article would make sense:

"Tyranid Combat Doctrine

Tyranids often attempt to first conquer a planet through subterfuge and infiltration. Space Hulks and other derelict spacecraft are infested with Genestealers, which quickly familiarise themselves with the layout of their new home, then enter hibernation.

When the Hulk is eventually discovered by Imperial authorities, the Genestealers attack the exploration crew, sometimes killing some crew members, but always leaving at least one survivor who is implanted with a seed, a form of Genestealer reproductive virus that contains specially-engineered Tyranid DNA. This infestation is never fatal, but instead the virus' genetic material subtly alters the victim's DNA, producing in them a strong urge to mate created by the stimulation of the individual's sex hormones. The Genestealer DNA will be incorporated into the host's germ cells and so any child that results from this union will be a Genestealer Hybrid, which now has the complete loyalty of its parents through a psychic bond. The Hybrids continue to breed and multiply among the population of the host species, eventually forming a Genestealer Cult. As the Cult grows in numbers, it begins to spread its influence throughout the planet's political and social structure, placing its members in positions of power within the government and the military. At the same time, the Cult's Hybrid members begins to emit a collective psychic signal through the Warp that acts as a beacon for the approaching Tyranid Hive Fleet.

As the Tyranid Hive Fleet nears the doomed world, the Genestealer Cult, potentially numbering in the millions by this point, goes into action, instigating a worldwide rebellion with the goal of weakening the planet's defenses against the approaching Hive Fleet. The Hive Fleet will also seed the planet with Tyranid organisms, which will begin to biologically alter the planet's climate, surface and ecosystems to make it easier to consume. If the Hive Fleet is victorious, the fleet will descend to the planet, inhaling the atmosphere, drinking the seas, and basically consuming all organic biomass until nothing more than a lifeless ball of rock remains. "

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Tyranids

"The Genestealers (Corporaptor hominis) are one bioform of the multispecies Tyranid race that was genetically designed by the Hive Mind for the infiltration of other intelligent species' settled worlds. The Tyranids are an intelligent, nomadic alien race governed by a collective consciousness known as the Hive Mind and comprising many different genetically-engineered forms. Genestealers reproduce by introducing their genetic material into a host from another intelligent species; this is normally a human, but can theoretically be any sentient humanoid race, including the Eldar or the Orks. The Genestealers have no true genders, and require a creature of any species, any gender to reproduce. The Genestealer will find a suitable host and hypnotise them into passivity using its unusual, alien eyes. The Genestealer then thrusts its long, whip-like tongue (which also serves as an ovipositor) into the body of the host, where it deposits its DNA in the form of a type of virus that infects the somatic and germ line cells of the host. Several hours later, the infected victim wakes up from the incident, with no wounds or any recollection of what happened. The new host of the Genestealer DNA will go on about its normal life, and eventually reproduce with another member of its species, thus siring (if male) or giving birth (if female) to a Genestealer Hybrid. The Genestealer reproductive cycle is truly cyclical, as an F4 hybrid will always spawn a purestrain Genestealer with a genome identical to that of the original Genestealer that infected the first host."

Unless I missunterstood you; genestealer cult(ist)s are not "fully human". They are, well Hybrids. Each new generation ( of which there are five ) getting more and more genestealer like.

Image

That ofcourse can happen to pretty much any race.

Image

And my god, I'd do unholy things to get a Genestealer Magos / Genestealer Cultists in the game.

Opposite actually. Earlier generations are more disfigured, while future generations are harder to distinguish as they look more similar to original hosts until they reach the 5th generation and create a perfect hybrid. Which, from my assumption, probably has to do with the timing of a hive fleet entering the system and besieging the planet because of the psychic resonance from the cult calling to the hive mind.

Picked this up reading into it from the Cain novels, since he's dealt with a cult or two in the books from what I last read.

okfaeller got it right. the first hybrid looks completely like the host race and then with each generation they become more genestealer like until they get a purebreed genestealer.
