Hi all,
I'm coming back to the game after a break, and I've decided to give Eldar a try. They're a hell of a race to play well in terms of micro so I've been thinking of ways to make that a bit easier. I've never modded before, so please forgive me if my ideas below are those that have already been considered and rejected by modding communities the world over.
1. AI for own units. What I'm talking about is the ability to essentially set one's units on "auto-pilot" so that you can focus on more macro- or micro-level issues. Some examples: banshees will automatically use their wail ability upon taking melée damage from the target they are attacking; Scouts (or any unit) will automatically flee after losing 80% of health or squad; etc.
(On a semi-related note, it really bugs me that I can't cue production for generators or unit upgrades. That would be really nice.)
2. Tactic macros. This would rely on (1) a lot: basically a pre-defined set of actions that squad X will take given that squad Y has performed actions A, B, and C, or something. You get the idea.
Thoughts?
Own-unit AI and tactics macros
Re: Own-unit AI and tactics macros
Would make the game exceptionally simple to play, boring and easy. This game already has a very low APM, although its micro-intensity musn't be underestimated because one failure can be the doom of you. Still such changes are frivolous really because the game just isn't going to allow it. This is an RTS, you need to practice your micro, else play any other normal strategy game.
Lets make Ordo Malleus great again!
Re: Own-unit AI and tactics macros
Although you need some practice to see/understand what is happening, and to decide how to act, the actual pace of clicking shit is pretty leisurely compared to more hardcore RTS. Your changes are pretty much aimed at leaving the player nothing to do.
I'm not convinced it would make the game easier, as the AI would use your abilities at bad times etc. but it would sure be boring.
