IG: Melee option for Lord General

I was wondering how bad it would be for the Lord General to have a melee option in T1. Any main hero of any race can have a decent melee capacity except this one, and even if it's just a basic option to be able to stand against a T1 attacker, i thought it could be interesting.

I thought just giving him a "Duelist Sword" option equal to the Commisar Lord's basic sword (30 dps melee damage) that gave him +5 or +10 melee skill and also made his retinue troopers get chain swords and las pistols (with the stats of GM sergeants).
This way, ifwe are facing marines or chaos or orks we can purchase it in T1 and have a slight oportunity before having to flee back as we get the catachans and heavy teams in.

Don't think a Melee option for LG is necessary at all to be honest.

As it is, he can already tie things up, has retinues and is always the last to die, and all his gears provide some great buffs to IG.

And seriously, if you're gonna give the LG a melee weapon its gonna make turn him useless in battle as his not the tankiest IG commander(IMO) or the most painful but offers the best support. Give him a melee weapon and it would be easier to focus fire the LG and remove all his buffing abilities from that battle as he will surely have to immediately retreat before he can even get into charging range.

That means no buffs for the other GM models in battle :p

He's good as that guy who just sits right at the edge of a battle either giving them buffs or slightly ahead ONLY to tie up painful ranged units early game such as Tacs etc.

Mek?

The LG is pretty decent in melee comabt for a ranged hero, he has 950 hp, can reinforce on the field and does 22 melee dps with his starting retinue.

I do not think this is needed.

Ha also has a special attack standard. That's a big thing for a ranged commander.

It isn't nessecary. I know why you think it, but then the opponent just pulls back when you try to counter and he dies. The LG has great wargear, doesn't need anything else.

LG is actually quite decent in melee for a range unit

He's not gonna inflict too much damage, but he can tie up important squads and he can take range damage like a bawss (50% from refractor and 30% from flak jacket)

As much as i like captain mustache i don't think he needs any more improvements from what he already got since retail. Tho i would actually like to see the bug with the comissar retinue fucking up with the LG range fixed

Mekboy disagrees.

That said, the Lord General already has pretty decent melee strength. By default, he's got 22 Melee DPS (this is also counting his Guardsmen bodyguards). His retinue upgrades increase this to 38 (4 from the Sarge, 10 from the Commie, 2 from the Vox Caster). All things considered, this is pretty respectable for a primarily ranged hero.

If I was to suggest any sort of change to the Lord General, I would suggest giving the Commisar/Sergeant/Vox Caster access to the weapon wargears that the General has, but that would probably turn pretty silly pretty quickly.

I present to you WARMASTER Slaydo, who slew a Chaos warlord in single combat on Balhaut in the Sabbat Worlds. He even had a power sword.

While I disagree with the idea, I suppose that the sword could always increase melee capabilities of nearby units (think Catachans instead of puny guardsmen) with something like a bayonet charge.

Not to mention Catachan's officer Straken, the marine-crusher.

Yeah, but there is a bit of a difference between Straken and Castor.

In fact, Castor has a bionic arm just like Straken, they should be pretty similar if we guided our opinions by that.

Yah, I know whom I'd bet my money on in a brawl between those two.

You missed out, Castor is one of the best, most badarse characters of the DoW franchise.

Btw I think the idea of actually giving LG in game a melee option is retarded. I belive you've made about a dozen threads about adding new heroes/units that make no sense balance wise and aren't needed.

Tbf if you just like the fluff and not the competitive _balanced_ gameplay then feel free to play campaign and/or last stand where you can have highly customizable bonkers OP heroes.

Not sure what LS and/or campaign (which is strong contender for the title of the worst thing of gaming decade when it comes to Retri) have to do with fluff, so some sort of fluffy mod would do better.

LS unit stats are nothing like normal btw, so bonkers OP'ness of heroes there is highly relative.

Probably this suggestion can be used if LG needs something similar to refractor, but against melee (?), but that's mostly "just in case" idea.

Genius toilet :P

Afraid I'm tired of being civil on these threads. They are the worst on the forum. Please put them under "Random Shit" if you wanna make more.

Maybe I am blowing my horn a bit here, but I have something just like that in progress.

There isn't. I'm alone. I have nowhere else to go. v.v

Unless you know a better place to take it to?

I would not want to ninja the Elite forums either as it is a rival mod, as to speak. :P

Now I'm depressed.
Well, I guess the relic news forums still exist. I hope.

Moddb.com is also a good option. Most relicnews mods have an alternate page on that site. For DoW1 at least. So at least there's a supportive 40K community, at any rate.
