So it looks like they made a PC version of this ages old thing?

And there's also a 50% off 40K weekend deal.

Whow, Killteam made it to PC. Just released today.

Super Weird. Why did they all of a sudden decide its worth it now? Guess we have to thank SEGA?

But 10 Euros is still a bit too much for it imho.

Edit: Whelp, no co-op on that version, definatly not worth the money then.

Most everything 40K on steam is 50% off, despite it being a 'dawn of war' sale. Heh.

Between the introduction of Kill team on steam, the implementation of steam achievements for vanilla DoWII and chaos rising, and this sale, can we assume that SEGA are finally starting to pay attention to the lucrative DoW license they own?

UPDATE: Just this day, SEGA released an official patch for DoW1 soulstorm on steam. I haven't gone through the details yet, but the engine version has been updated. It looks very much like the series is being given some developer support again.

UPDATE 2: Aaaand all I can see changed is that they've removed the LAN function. For whatever reason. Feckers.

lol; everyone can still pirate the retail game and patch everything they need and leave it.

And this is why we have annoying simulator games, stuff like DRM and always online crap etc....

I don't even understand which game are we pirating here and why?

They patched DoW1 and DoW2 so they could replace GameSpy Arcade and GFWL dependencies with SteamWorks.

They are referring to DoW1. In addition to the changes Indrid described, the LAN multiplayer and direct IP join features were removed from that game and it's expansions. (But hey, you get a shiny SEGA logo where the THQ one used to be). A sore loss, as I used the LAN function extensively for group games with friends.

The only reasoning behind this that I can think of is as a measure to prevent those without their own copy of the game from playing multiplayer. Which has agitated a few people, seeing as DoW1 is about a decade old and SEGA have introduced what is essentially a DRM measure.

Does anyone know if Kill Team is in the same Engine as DoWII / If the files are packed the same way?

I wonder if it were possible to rip animations / art assets from it and potentially port them over to DoWII.

( or atleast take a look at them in the model viewer )

Kill Team uses DoW2 assets so that would be mostly pointless. Also probably forbidden.

Although the TM robot arm attack animation would be nice.

Yah, it recyclces alot of both DoWII and Space Marine ( Gretchin for example ), but you know, maybe if someone would write a very nice message to relic, maybe they'd be okey with it.

Would be nice if atleast a couple of animations or level assets could be used ( has anyone notices the Ork buggies? ).

And to be fair, a bionic arm animation should have been there from the very start, so I believe relic ows us. :l

Isn't the Space Marine Librarian essentially ripped from the Librarian with helmet that was supplied by a modder?

I remember there was some discussion about it when Kill Team first announced with at least a librarian screenshot present.

Because tragedy of the commons is just so darn convenient. But I'm ok with it. Why am I gonna pay for a nearly 10 year old RTS (C&C Kane's Wrath) if I just wanna do a quick play through of the single player campaign?

Then just don't get it?

I got the demo for kill team on my PS3, but it really did not seem very interesting. More focussed on a lore front than anything, but even then that was dire. What made it better was co-op, but hearing that the Steam version does not have co-op seems like a massive failure.

Because making video games isn't free and you're not entitled to it just because you don't feel like paying. Do I really need to say this website doesn't approve of piracy, especially of DoW or 40K games...

Also, If someone who got the game, and has access to maybe Santos' tools could check if Kill Team's files are packaged in the same format as DoWII's. That would be great.
I mean, most likely not, but one can hope.

eh, i'll get it and check.

EDIT: nope. not sure what it uses but the file extensions are .jfs and .jfslist for the most part. animations are listed in text files. they might be easily convertible but i have no idea what engine they're using and i don't think they're using essence with different file types. didn't try to open anything though. i can send people some files if they want.
