Modding unit portraits

Postby Broodwich » Mon 10 Mar, 2014 10:19 pm

Hello guys, I'm wondering if someone could give a quick rundown of how I could edit the unit portraits myself, preferably without blowing my game up. All I really want to do is make the FC face the old CR version to match the voice, but I havent come across any mod for it yet.

Thanks in advance!

dawn of war ii - retribution / Elite_beta / Data / ui / textures / space_marines / portraits

dawn of war ii - retribution / Elite_beta / Data / ui / textures / space_marines / squad_tabs

dawn of war ii - retribution / Elite_beta / Data / ui / textures / space_marines / icon_squads

You got to drop the portrait of your choice in those folders, saved as an DDS file ( youre going to need Photoshop or something like that )

I guess you have to name it "sm_force_commander"; I would have to check to make sure

Aighty, I got a simple dds viewer so I can look at it, but I dont have CR or vanilla installed still. Would anyone be able to get those/ have them laying around for me?

What exactly do you need; the portraits for the vanilla-ice commander?

If you could turn it into a DDS, it would be all you need, basically.

Thing is, I just cant figure out what to replace with it.

sm_captain_diomedes
sm_diomedes
sm_force_commander
sm_force_commander_diomedes

I have to asume its one of those, but i cant figure it out quite yet.

Some of them are probably from the campaign, since diomedes is never actually labeled as a "force commander."

His official title is "captain of the honor guard."

Ok! So i got the squad tabs done and it kinda looks like crap because of converting and resizing like 3 times but you can at least tell its him. Also since its not diamond cropped with the same backround as the others it has some white frame around the squad tab (in game one).

Ok so portrait is the big portrait you see lower right when selecting the unit
Squad tab is what you see upper right in your roster
Icon squads appears for me only after the game is done, the brocap has a png of the same dimensions in that folder so maybe that is used for like the loading screen/commander picking screen. I did try to stick my own in there but it didnt pick it up

All files need to be named sm_force_commander
