Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
The only thing I like about this is the name. Regicide. Reminds me of Ciaphas Cain, of the games between the good comissar and the lord general. And something tells me it'll take a good amount of amasec substitute to make this game appear worthwhile.
Disappointing. And bolters don't work that way!

Sweet Emperor! Vocaloid's prediction of a Farmville(40k style) may indeed be upon us if this BS keeps up.
IIRC, Creative Assembly has Games Workshop permission to create games using their title right? At the very least let us see a Warhammer Fantasy: Total War (Not of Rome 2 release quality) rather than this nonsense.

. Based on this, the game mixes in stunt choreographed and motion captured animation to create "merciless kill and death animations" using military trained fight and stunt choreographers.
Its a freaking chess game !!!
- eh, Ill give it a try.
Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
I'm actually looking forward to this one :p
Didn't play chess in some time now
Used to do it in school regularly.
Even came on top in the chess tournament held at our school. ^^

You only won at chess because you flesh-hooked the King Riku.
dun u lie

Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
I kinda did luck out in that tournament to be honest.
My best friend was better than me and won like 80% of our games against each other.
Good thing the 20% was with me that day

Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
The Bolters looked a little... non-canon. Also the voice is far too deep and Hollywood blockbuster, it has to very zealous and over exaggerated, with a touch of Boreale on the side.
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.
Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
I thought the Bolters looked like Bolters and I really dig the voice. So Space mariny, or something. ^^

The Bolters fired a bit assault-rifle-y imho, but eh, everything else looks good.
Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
I loved the Space marine animations and the voice too.
Also digging the chess pieces in the battlefield ^^

So, all we have is just an intro video.
No pictures, no actual gameplay, no info whatsoever.
It's a bad premise.

Have a gander at this link: http://warhammer40kchess.com/press-release/
There actually appears to be quite a bit of thought invested in this. Military-trained fight and stunt choreographers for the sync kills and stuff, a 'new' form of chess suited to the game style on top of classic chess, and a Blood Angels campaign. Upgradeable characters mentioned, too. Also mention of 'several factions'.
I'll be honest, I'm really starting to warm to this game. At least on it's core concepts. How they are implemented is to be seen.
Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
I expect they are making some sort of scenarios for the campaign mode.
The voice seems appropriate, Spess are huge and their voices would be very low.

And they got Ross Watson writing for them, a gamesworkshop writer / game designer who also did most of the 40k RPG books.
We dont know if its going to be great, but I doubt its going to be another Storm of Vengeance.

Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
It's just a chess game it can't be bad, there is no way it can be, like every other clone of chess reskinned for X brand.
The question is, was this necessary?
Do warhammer players fucking care about warhammer chess?
Personally when I want to play chess I play the real one.

Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
When I was young there was Battle Chess and now there will be 40K Chess, fuck yeah it's the only reason I would play chess at all (it's pretty boring)...

Isn't Dawn of War just a hugely glorified way of enjoying chess... in a rather more interesting way?

Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
No it's quite unrelated to chess...
Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
Actually you are wrong Lul, if you simplfy the idea behind dawn of war (or any strategy game for that matter) and chess you would get something like: Use your stuff/units defeat your opponents stuff/units.
Verdict:
Pretzels > Chess
Verdict:
Pretzels > Chess

That's a bit far-stretched... it basically makes Forza Motorsport a form of chess...

Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
Well, yes, it's definitely a stretch. Most games you can name, when you boil them down to their core concepts contain the basic premise of 'conflict'. That does not make them a form of chess.
Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
MaxPower wrote:Verdict:

That is agreed.
But basically the mechanics of these games evolved over years and years from chess to DoW II. Of course it is a long shot to say one is more complex than the other, but inevitably the mechanics of chess have transitioned through hundreds of iterations of games until the basic mechanics of the game were made into something a little more fleshed out. I wasn't seriously suggesting that it is glorified chess, but the roots are there.

Re: Warhammer 40.000 Chess
DOW is definitely more deep than chess. The problem is that since it's an RTS and not turn based that makes it practically infinitely more difficult to mathematical derive the optimal way to play, even when you account for practically everything you foe may or may not do and then you have to factor in micro.
Lets make Ordo Malleus great again!

Ofc it's a "bit" far-stretched, but yes, ultimately chess is just a game like forza. The lowest common denominator being, they are all games.

All the chess hates gonna hate. I like chess, but I don't want to buy an overpriced chess game unless the warhammer title brings a little something special to it other than pretty visuals and a big price tag.
