Retro dow2 casts

Postby Toilailee » Tue 06 Jan, 2015 10:04 am

I was going through some old dow2 casts for nostalgy's sake and found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnV256MvxFY

It's from f***ing 3½ years ago, Indrid sounds so young :P (also featuring toilailee ;)).

It's quite eerie how vacant Indrid sounds... :o
The internal battery has run dry, the game can now be played. However, clock based events will no longer occur.

If anyone has any of the DoW2live commentary, when it was the backbone casting for DoW2, I'd literally die of happiness.

Good memories.

Reading up on old changes

"Walkers overbuffed"

lol'd. That's why they got price-cuts to re-align with their new performance, and they never got that right unfortunately. I never found the splash introduction and health increase any worthwhile, as well as the removal of melee resistance.

In an essence of once was
- Melee walkers had no splash, but had ALOT higher single target damage
- Walkers were alot more accessible due to their cost and replaceable even
- Deff Dredd had insane AoE burn damage, that was pretty much squandered. (from 90 to 45)

Can't forget those 80 damage cyclone missile launchers that knocked back retreating units. Or Wartrukks that had the dps of like 2x big shootas.

Or HT Crushing Claws dps not being amazeballs, and went to insaneballz dps later on.

I love nostalgia.

And this was all before my time

Though having said that I did play DoW II when it first came out, and looking at those videos, I remember a lot of it from way back.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCJ3azmJjag Saw this replay come up, the British guy is so proper and smooth. Plus featuring our overlord Caeltos.

None of that post makes sense to me :|

I laughed when he mentioned the "Nascar Predators" though, sadly I've never seen them.

I've actually been checking out these cats now and VinidcareX's play is pretty inspirational. I think I'm gonna try and steal a few moves from that playbook :P

Meow

The idea of triple Cultists with GL and double dreads was sort of inspirational, but mostly funny.

They used own3d.tv a lot iirc so it's likely erased by now since it went down ;/ Wishful thinking but perhaps Bluefoot has some of it stored?

Let's be honest, old walkers were ridiculous.

Not quite Synapse-bomb level, or pre-1.4 Tacspam, but . . . . ridiculous. I think they just made a lot of changes at once to walkers, which confused matters.

Of course, they had a good three sites screaming balance feedback at them and demanding to all be noticed, so :P

I think Old Walkers functioned alot more practical. They weren't overpriced, and if you lost one, it wouldn't be the end of the game. The more expensive they become, the more likely to make a comeback dimnished. Coupled that with stacking snares and lascannon functionality, walkers saw a decline in useage due to the risk vs reward factor.

The old pricing also helped cause diversity and flexibility in builds. Largely, the changes made to the walkers were negative. Nevertheless, also that Chaos had crushers/bloodletter heavy_melee source that just destroyed walker viablity in the matchup.

I think their price should have remained the medium rather than the absurdity of power dependancy and been fine with it. Maybe.
