Do people use hotkeys for unit upgrades?

Also do people move the map using their mouse or hotkeys?

Anything else that could be useful for new players, to help them get set up in the right way?

I think for unit upgrades its not very important to use hotkeys. For everything else though yes, its important.
My Tipp for beginners: set it to Gridsystem. That means the ability on the left is always Q, the next is always W and so on. Easy to learn + all buttons are in the same area.

The Map is moved mostly with the mouse either at the Screenedge or on the minimap, do not use the arrow keys^^ But, you can put your units on controll groups. Select a unit or more, press contrl+1-9. when you then press the number, you will always select the units in that group, or the unit. Its better then trying to click on their symbol during a fight. So if you want to use a grenade just press 2 and then then w. During that you can already position your mouse where you want the grenade, and you just have to click.
Also, if you double tab the number, your camera goes to that unit, very usefull and is often used as the main camera changer if you have it down.

If you're an old player like me, you've learnt every key for every upgrade and can now safely purchase the wrong wargear when you don't pay attention, but still win =)
