So rangers and some other units on the attack move tend to have some of their models run forwards for whatever reason. Is this due to the models finishing the attack move but then stopping after they get to their minimum range?
I'm always curious as to why ranger models (and a few others) occasionally just run forwards even when the lead model has already started firing.

Re: For my curiosity
Probably for the same reason Imperial Guard HWT models who aren't carrying the heavy weapon will move forward. They have weapons with shorter range than the main weapon so need to get closer to attack. The game is programmed so that every model tries to get into shooting range. I remember back in vanilla when HWT models would charge enemies and pummel them with their fists.
It would be better if the game had been programmed so that those guys only stuck with the main weapon and didn't insist on moving forward, it's annoying when all your spare models rush forward and get caught in melee, preventing the heavy weapon from shooting.

It happens to other set up teams too, specially with very long range weapons like Blastmaster. That's why Indrid says '' They split out strangely ''. But I haven't seen someone complains about it after the fix of HWT members missing lasguns.

Re: For my curiosity
When you order them to attack something every model will try to run into range. If you just let them autotarget the models with shorter range will be content to just shit around doing nothing.

Re: For my curiosity
An easy (and a crappy) solution could be increase the range of the non-hwt/sniper members.
With the necessary balance changes, of course.

I think this idea was discussed in another thread, and there was some concerns about line of sight or something?
