Hey guys I am currently studying abroad in China and having problems installing elite mod. Problem is exe file i download is not recognized by computers in lanshops i go to. If i try to open the file, it asks me to choose a program that i want to use to open it showing the fact that exe is not being recognized. If i choose to run upon finishing download, it will normally install but i have to wait for more than 1hr to get the file every time i play so i need some help. I can unzip the file but cannot do anything else about it. The operating system is windows 7.
Can anyone tell me how to manually install the mod?
Anyhelp would be greatfully apprecated.

Idk, have fun with the local Gestapo when they interrogate you for installing capitalist spyware.

Uhm excuse me? This is no laughing matter.
If you said that as a joke, it was quite offending. I am quite deseparate about this problem and came to forum to ask for help but i never expected to be mocked like that. Lulgrim, I persoanlly was very thankful for your effort in keeping this community well yet i think answering a guy asking for help like that is very rude.

Re: How to manually install elite
If I understand correctly you want to use an unfinished .exe to install elite, as far as I know you simply can't, because it will be recognized as a corrupted file, neither can you extract specific data from it, you will have to wait for it to complete.

I don’t see how that has been denied.

Well, I’d say I was rather mocking China, but have you ever asked a question on the Internet before?

Don't forget that Lulgrim is finnish afaik. Take one long look at Nurland and a pattern emerges. They can't help it
Also, what Ace said. Since exe files are often compressed and parts of the compressed file are missing, the algorithm to decompress the file will be struggling to get the files back with the missing chunk since it can not guess the information. You will simply have to wait for the file to be completed. Concerning China, I wouldn't put it past the censors to actively sabotage your download.

You can use 7zip to extract the files from the installer exe. You need the following
dawn of war ii - retribution\Elite.module
dawn of war ii - retribution\Elite\Archives
dawn of war ii - retribution\Elite\Config
dawn of war ii - retribution\GameAssets\Locale\English\Elite.ucs
launch with
steam.exe -applaunch 56400 -nomovies -modname Elite

dawn of war ii - retribution\GameAssets\Locale\English\Elite.ucs

steam.exe -applaunch 56400 -nomovies -modname Elite

Re: How to manually install elite
Thank you guys for constructive advises. Will try according to what hakon suggested.
Just for the love of this game, I sat down in a local lanshop filled up with chinese bastards smoking like crazy while wearing a mask trying my best to figure out a way to install the game and it frigging takes years to download both the game and the mod. They blocked so many websites and links that finding a wayabout without vpn is a huge pain. For worse, I will be stuck in this country for about 3 years untill i graduate from uni while only going back during vacation. If i don't find a way to solve this problem, i won' be able to play dow2 for more than 2 years worth of time during whence i will be stuck in china. Being denied from playing the game i love the most and enjoyed for more than 3years is a real horrorific torment so it is certainly not a laughing matter.
Well it is more serious because its you who said it lulgrim. If it was some nobody, i would consider that not to be a big problem but if someone holding badges under their ID such as moderator or magos make a comment like that, it is a different matter.
Of course you can't tell me what you don't know but coming to a post asking for a serious help and saying sth like that is not respectful imo. For a person who is in deseperate need of help like me, your comment was adding wound to the salt. "I can't help but have some fun trying to solve it" is how i perceived it. Even if you meant not to mock me, saying that when i am being driven to a corner make it sound offending. Just because its internet and we don't see other people's face doesn't mean we carelessly throw comments around especially if that person making a comment holds a title in a community.
With all due respect, please be more considerate when you answer a question in technical support section as a Magos.

It can still be a laughing matter for someone else.

May I draw attention to the fact you're telling this to "Lulgrim" on an obscure Internet forum?

Wat.

No, I said have fun while the secret police beats you. I didn't suggest nobody would help you with it.
