I need pointers for a particular situation

So ive been playing elite and dow 2 in general more frequently since quitting path of exile.

I have been doing well, but there is one match up that always face rolls me and I feel like I don't have an answer to it .

So the situation involves playing against imperial guard, while i suck in general vs ig players that learn to really exploit the more ludicrous combos ; it is the lord general that makes me blood boiling angry.

So i play 2v2 and 3v3 (1v1 is far to tedious for a casual like me). Now what happens is that the lord general either rolls 2 upgraded guardsmen + sentinel or 2 sentinel + upgraded guardsmen .

when i play lighter infantry races ( orks and eldar) I feel like the guard are twice as tanky in the first few engagements. 2 900+ hp squads that reinforce for half the cost and a one model heavy infantry , vs a bunch of 500 hp squads that i have

when i play heavier races like sm and chaos the lord general abuses his ability to reinforce (pay to heal himself basically) to tie up my 1 tac / csm completely dominate the map as my scouts / heretics suffer far greater attrition than the guardsmen which are dirt cheap.


So I am at a loss of how to engage good ig players who are more than capable of exploiting the extremely powerful and unique benefits that ig has over other races.

try to get to t2 as soon as possible, ig are much weaker there than in t1 or try to rely on your teammate (if he's TM or pc you can just play super defensively) in a team game that is, dont do that in a 1v1
oh and have you ever seen LG buffed catas with inspire determination in a 3v3 ?

salty can you say which race your looking for help with? I can say with certainty some things as ork/sm/chaos/tyr as Eldar though I don't have much guidance.

well to be precise:

I have more trouble as sm than chaos ( tacs cost more and sm supports are kind of passive in the early game)

and orks / eldar are about equally fail to guard (ie the lack of heavy infantry leaves me with almost nothing to soak up the stupid amount of sent harassment.

The problem with the fast tech thing is that the ig seems to get way more for way less.


Vs particularly aggressive guard players I wont be able to hold nodes because they can do far more with just requisition than I can do with just requisition.


I also would like a way to atleast deter those aggressive players who are religious about picking off vulnerable targets with sentinel harassment in the early game.

Tedious is the wrong word to describe 1v1... A better word would be fatiguing I imagine.

Sniper scouts put huge pressure on sents. ASM, flamers tacs, and if you can fit in a dev. If you cant then try to use your hero well. FC battle focuses cats as do ASM, Tacs try to focus guardsmen. Scouts focus sent. 2nd scouts(?) focus guardsmen or sent.
Apotho you would have to ask Riku. Techmarine, instead on flamer id go Master crafted bolter(?) but i do not main Techmarine.

I one most of the time with 2 scouts which helps tons in the first engagement. un upgrade scouts can deal some damage to a sent or guardsmen if left unchecked.

I dont have the replay on me. But with PC i was able to take on 2 guardsmen squads, 2 sents, one cats and one heavy weapon squad. His hero was LG. (Note: no blight nades were used) And his ig turret.

I had Raptors, 2 heretics (one AC(?) one GL) CSM no upgrade and a havoc. No upgrade on PC. Lost first engagement though which vs 2 sents and LG...makes sense.

well how much power are we talking about , I mean If i have to spend 80+ power to address an army that is 40 power i am going to be at a disadvantage.


I wouldn't have posted here if the answer was as simple as throw money at it .

Throwing raw resources doesn't work , because the imperial guard have a distinct resource advantage built into their units (ie starting upgrades cost no power or reduced power and they have the best methods for on field sustainability).

Which SM hero? Yes you will almost always have to deal with using much more power to just compete. Remember their advantages are in T1 not T2.

With orks and eldar its even worse. You HAVE to spend power just to have a fighting chance.

FC I always grab the shield its super good, I think. Double tacs, Scout with Sg and either ASM or HWT depending on what you feel is more comfortable.

TM. master crafted bolter is amazing for finishing off a sent or weakening a hero or slowing down catas etc. Usually I get the artificer armor but I try not too to save power.
Then again double tacs to single target with MCB to finish off sentries heroes etc. Scouts I try to avoid getting Sgt but sometimes its worth it. I try to get by with just this but sometimes you just need a HWT or ASM.

Well my opponent also spend alot of power him self. I failed to mention his LG's Nade launcher purchase. But he went a heavy t1. Its not easy at all to combat a heavy t1 with a light t1 so you most likely will have to throw in some extra "bread" to be able to push/hold your line/side. Going to have to choose what you purchase carefully. But what really does help is read what people say, and then try it out in a game and get the feel for the build. Practice practice and more practice.

Note: The problem with going heavy is that if your mates aren't doing so well, it usually backfires. SO pay attention to how well they are doing also. I find my self messing up there every once and a while.

It is a difficult game to master. Especially with changes every few weeks or sooner.
Shit just happens. I lost 6 games in a row the other day but I don't play for the W/L ratio either.
